I went to one a lot like it.

A relative got married at a nice place and it was a nice setup and not cheap.

So many of the bridesmaids had tattoos and a few were really overweight. It was sad. There were several lady guests that were inked so much it turned me off the dinner (well almost).

I’m of the same mindset as you.

I don’t get them at all. You may be on to something about freak of the year.

“You may be on to something about freak of the year.”

I hope not; I have to believe there is more to them mutilating themselves than simply “NOTICE ME!”...

I loath tattoos. I’ve never seen a tattoo that didn’t look awful. However, it is a foolish thing for the military to use in disqualifying people. My oldest daughter and SIL both got tattoos - in the Marines. Both went to Iraq & my SIL is on disability from multiple injuries to his legs, back and head. He saw a lot of fighting, had his best friend killed while they were talking (shrapnel), two tours in Fallujah...all with tattoos.

As for overweight: that can be cured with enough motivation, and the military used to specialize in providing motivation...

“And if you examine the totality of what Obama was saying, most people agree with Obama. The notion that the US can successfully implement a foreign policy based largely on military intervention has been proven to be false and absurd. Not only does it not work, it costs huge sums of money and kills/maims many Americans.”

I’ve read the speech. Perhaps your contention would have merit if his advocacy for a civilian military was not coming to fruition. Look at what’s going on with virtually federal agency; HSA, IRS EPA, Dept of Interior, list goes on. Virtually all of these organizations have developed armed and militarized units to enforce their own agendas. Guess this doesn’t concern you?

I went through basic and AIT with an individual in similar circumstances, though this was long after Vietnam. He got through basic just fine, but once we had a little more freedom in MOS training, the wheels came off. He was finally discharged after being found drunk on duty. It was really too bad, because the guy was ridiculously textbook smart and could have gone far in the military or as a civilian, if he really wanted to.

I picked up my first tattoo in Viet Nam (sát cộng).

I dislike tattoos, but that's one of the few that I like. A Vietnamese caught with that tattoo in present-day Vietnam would probably be executed.

These federal agencies had their armed enforcement branches long before Obama became president.

This is something you have to accept. Because the US population is extensively armed, law enforcement, including the federal agencies, will be better armed.

And you should also realize, that if certain events take place, and certain situations arise, the US Northern Command ascends to authority over the nation.

The relatively easy solution for this are physical readiness camps, likely three to six months that covers the gamut of deficiencies.

1) Physical education, diet control, weight loss for many.
2) Tattoo removal.
3) Reeducation for literacy and military history, the latter almost being recreational.

Thank you for your Vietnam service.

I flew choppers there in 1971-72 but even then I knew anyone there from 1965-69 had seen the worst of it. We were during the Easter Offensive March-June 1972 but in August they stood our unit down.

Late 1970’s it was Jimmah Carter’s hollow Army with all the worthless Cat IV recruits. From Reagan through Dubya the Army was the finest I saw & Vietnam syndrome was over.

Thank goodness I retired in 2011. The fag & PC nonsense is ruining our military. From the top down.

Most of the agencies are indeed what’s referred to as armed agencies. Intent meaning sidearm or long arm in certain instances. They were never intended to be para-military. And, no, I don’t have to accept it. But, you obviously have.

In my king for a day vision ALL youngsters would be drafted after high screwl and sent to boot camp. The USMC would run boot camps for ALL branches of the services. Service options would include a pathway for conscientious objectors in something like the USFS building and maintaining trails or cleaning up all the crap we have scattered around the nation.

The USMC’s objective would be to replace the process of natural selection we have voided over the past 40 years. The recruits would either shape, ship out with their dismal future sealed or die trying to make grade. Requisites for graduation from USMC boot camp would include mastery of the English language and a thorough knowledge of US History and the Constitution.

I can’t believe that some people aren’t tattooing themselves out of whole sectors of the workplace with them.

It's already happening. Anybody coming into my company for a job interview with a visible tattoo is immediately disqualified. Now we'll think up other reasons for not hiring them in order to conform with EEOC rules, but bottom line, they aren't coming to work for us. I'm sure other companies are doing the same.

It's one thing to have a tattoo that you can keep covered with clothing when you are working and representing the company. I still don't understand it but that's your own business. But anything on the face, hands, neck, lower arms, etc., is a dis-qualifier in any professional job. Now if you plan to make a living as a nightclub bouncer, a rock musician or maybe leading a motorcycle gang, then go ahead and get all the tattoos you want.
