KABUL, Afghanistan — In one of the most significant coordinated assaults on the government in years, the Taliban have attacked police outposts and government facilities across several districts in northern Helmand Province, sending police and military officials scrambling to shore up defenses and heralding a troubling new chapter as coalition forces prepare to depart.
The attacks have focused on the district of Sangin, historically an insurgent stronghold and one of the deadliest districts in the country for the American and British forces who fought for years to secure it. The Taliban have mounted simultaneous attempts to conquer territory in the neighboring districts of Now Zad, Musa Qala and Kajaki. In the past week, more than 100 members of the Afghan forces and 50 civilians have been killed or wounded in fierce fighting, according to early estimates from local officials.
With a deepening political crisis in Kabul already casting the presidential election and long-term political stability into doubt, the Taliban offensive presents a new worst-case situation for Western officials: an aggressive insurgent push that is seizing territory even before American troops have completed their withdrawal from Afghanistan. . .

Our whole fight was in vain.
A couple of elections later and everything our soldiers fought for is gone.
Perhaps Western leaders and policy makers will come to understand that the values and institutions of the West that emanated from the enlightenment are simply not compatible with Islamic culture. There is inherent sustained conflict and violence throughout the Muslim world when Western oriented secularists attempt to govern. It is worse when Americans or other Westerners attempt to “aid” or engage in nation building. They are simply not “just like us”.
Mainly because democrats and the press are so STUPID that they can’t grasp the concept that if you set a fixed date to withdraw, that = a fixed date for the enemy to attack.
They constantly beat on Bush to announce a fixed date, and obviously he would not.
But with the traitors now in charge, this childishly simple principal is being illustrated throughout the Middle East
A vacum will always be filled by the bad guys when the good guys leave in the M.E......which will forever be a war zone no matter who clears it out....it's what Muslims there do....and most of what they only know to do. Until our guys can shoot to kill they will just breed like the maggots they are.

Absolutely heartbreaking. I was mobilized for Desert Storm back in ‘90. Never in my wildest DREAMS could I have imagined the outcome as far as Iraq and Afghanistan goes.
Two years of my life I’ll never get back, but I still HAVE my life. If I were a family member of a soldier who gave his/her life for what had turned out to be a waste of blood and treasure, I’d be camping on the White Hut lawn, screamin’ at the top of my lungs!
Wonder why our side never has a Cindy Sheehan when one is needed? (I know, I know; we don’t deal kindly with useful idiots, but you know what I mean...)

This is the problem..the Afghan army is unwilling to put their own life on the line to rid their country of the Taliban....same in Iraq. They all know if things get bloody enough other nations will come in and fight for them......then the “infidel” dies for them.

This is the problem..the Afghan army is unwilling to put their own life on the line to rid their country of the Taliban....same in Iraq. They all know if things get bloody enough other nations will come in and fight for them......then the “infidel” dies for them.
! wonder what’s now stopping the Chi-Coms from moving on Taiwan? And for North Koreanns to hit South Korea. It’s obvious that the Obama Regime will not defend American allies or interests. Maybe Russia should try for Eastern Europe again too?

Yet another Clown Prince nobama and his trusted aide kerry foreign policy success!!!!! These wonderful leaders never cease to amaze me.
It was from day one. This headline would have happened regardless of how long we stayed - today, tomorrow, or ten years from now.
Soviets live next door. Tried to “subdue” Afghanistan for what 15 years and finally left with their tail between their legs?
So we move in to take advantage of the void and 15 years later we leave with our tails between our legs?
For what have we left our sons souls?
Iraq the same. These crazies have fought for eons and will continue to do so.
Another “successful ending” to a war that dear leader can brag about.
What an incredible waste of resources and precious soldiers.
The only way to go to war is to do it the way we did it against Germany and Japan. Unconditional surrender, have our military run the country for a generation while re-educating the whole civilian population to our values. That’s the way you “win” hearts and minds, not through a politically correct, multicultural, compassionate, wussified operation.

Oh, I understand that - it’s just that people on the RIGHT SIDE of an issue, don’t tend to speak up or make a public fuss, with a few exceptions.
We foolishly still believe that our VOTE matters and is counted and that we can change things with it...
