VENICE, FL (CNN) " A 73-year-old veteran says he was fired from a Cracker Barrel restaurant for giving a needy man a few condiment packets and a corn muffin.
He admits it was against the restaurants rules, but says he thinks it was the right thing to do.

This is the same thing as Congress giving free stuff from taxpayer dollars to people they feel sorry for.
bttt
Sure is!
And throw in the fact that people like McCain.. may have served honorably at one time.. but that shouldn’t give them a free pass....
Cracker Barrel facebook page is getting scorched over this.

He should have paid for the items, then given them to the poor guy. However,I think I’ll just avoid Cracker Barrel for a couple years.
If he was so moved, why didn’t he spend his own money to buy the food instead of stealing it?
Whoever wrote this story is unfamiliar with the use of the apostrophe. A quick glance shows three—there may be more— instances of “its” when “it’s” (the contraction of “it” and “is”) is indicated. Then, I see a “hes” (which is not a word—in place of “he’s”) and “dont” instead of “don’t.”
Don’t they teach English anymore?
If they wrote him up for getting himself a fountain drink on the job, they must be AWFUL to work for. Heck, when I was a kid working at Pizza Hut, we could have whatever we wanted on the job except beer.
During the time he was employed, he violated the company's policies regarding consuming food without paying or giving away free food, on five separate occasions.
Mr. Koblenzer received multiple counselings and written warnings reminding him about the company's policies and the consequences associated with violating them.
Cracker Barrel doesn't deserve any criticism for this. It's nice that the guy wanted to be helpful and generous to people in need, but he shouldn't be doing that on his employer's dime. If he was truly generous then he should have paid for these things out of his own pocket.
Spanglish is the latest...Get with it! Transformation is occurring in front of your eyes.
Then why did he make a point to let people know why he was fired?
Vet or not he broke company policy, and the law, on more then one occasion. CB is not in the business to give out free food to every person that walks in the door.
I am not heartless, I am just tired of the entitlement culture we are nurturing in this country.
I hear ya. When I went through it I figured something was cut and pasted or transcribed, and the apostrophes simply didn’t show up.
Sorry but I am on Cracker’s side. Compassion is good but when word gets out to every other homeless person they will get free stuff they will keep on coming. They have a business to run.
Agreed. He did it repeatedly, he did it in spite of repeated warnings not to do it, and he did it on the company’s dime instead of his own.
This seems clear to me.
FR getting more Dickensian than ever, lol!
Right — which means he wasn’t fired over a corn muffin. He was fired for stealing (possibly as many as five times).
Generosity with someone else’s money is not generosity, it’s theft. I’m on Crackerbarrel’s side in this.
May I have some gruel, please. *snickering*
