A SWAT team blew a hole in my 2-year-old son

After our house burned down in Wisconsin a few months ago, my husband and I packed our four young kids and all our belongings into a gold minivan and drove to my sister-in-law’s place, just outside of Atlanta. On the back windshield, we pasted six stick figures: a dad, a mom, three young girls, and one baby boy.

That minivan was sitting in the front driveway of my sister-in-law’s place the night a SWAT team broke in, looking for a small amount of drugs they thought my husband’s nephew had. Some of my kids’ toys were in the front yard, but the officers claimed they had no way of knowing children might be present. Our whole family was sleeping in the same room, one bed for us, one for the girls, and a crib.

After the SWAT team broke down the door, they threw a flashbang grenade inside. It landed in my son’s crib.

Flashbang grenades were created for soldiers to use during battle. When they explode, the noise is so loud and the flash is so bright that anyone close by is temporarily blinded and deafened. It’s been three weeks since the flashbang exploded next to my sleeping baby, and he’s still covered in burns.

There’s still a hole in his chest that exposes his ribs.

When you favor the prohibition of ANYTHING ONCE LEGAL, such as booze or other recreational drugs, you must of necessity accept the actions needful to enforce your ban. And actions such as this one are the INEVITABLE RESULT of such prohibitions. They were when it was alcohol; they are yet today. These activities are no accident, they are the GUARANTEED RESULT of your nanny state. Big Government NEEDS to be much bigger in order to enforce YOUR ban and intimidation is needful in order to frighten the peasants into complying. YOU must take ownership of ALL this, if you support the underlying concept. You also join, in its support, the very cartels that you purport to despise; bans are GREAT for business and profits. You support the corruption of the “justice” system, the prison system, the cops, and so forth; it’s YOUR will they are obeying. When things like this happen, YOU are as guilty as the cops who carried out the raid; it’s YOUR will they are obeying.

And, once the machinery’s in place for THIS prohibition, what’s to stop its use for the NEXT one? After all, it’s gotta be kept busy.

I hate the misuse of drugs as much as you do, but I have taken the time to look at the BIG picture and it’s pretty scary if we continue down this road. I’m content, therefore, to leave SIN to God and depend on the laws against whatever actual CRIMES are committed by drug users to deal with that. I value FREEDOM much MORE than being Mrs. Grundy’s husband and accomplice. PLUS I have more cedibility when I talk to someone about changing their ways. It’s not MY way or prison, it’s God’s Will offering a better way. It’s God’s LOVE that changes sinners, NOT man’s laws. You’d do well to remember that. Yes, folks will do things which offend you (and me). But, absent a non-consenting party to their behavior, a grown individual’s choice of intoxicants is neither your business nor mine. And most assuredly not government’s.

Habersham County authorities were searching for alleged drug dealer Wanis Thonetheva, 30, when they broke down the door of the darkened Corneila pad, located some 90 miles northeast of Atlanta.

Thonetheva, who was not at the home, was wanted for selling meth to an undercover officer.

Cops have said they had reason to believe there were armed men inside and were told by a confidential informant that no children were at the home. But Phonesavanh, his wife, Alecia, along with Bou Bouand his three older sisters, were inside; they'd been staying with Thonetheva, Phonesavanh's newphew, for about two months after a fire destroyed their Wisconsin home.

Thonetheva was arrested at another Cornelia residence, along with three other people, shortly after the raid, Terrell said. He is charged with distribution of methamphetamine. Habersham County Chief Assistant District Attorney J. Edward Staples said Thonetheva could also be charged in connection with the baby’s injuries.

Thonetheva was already out on bond for an October 2013 charge of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony — the felony being distribution of methamphetamine, Staples said.

He is presently being held at the Habersham County Detention Center without bond. His rap sheet shows nine arrests since 2002 and includes charges of drug possession, carrying a concealed weapon, driving while his license was withdrawn and contempt of court, according to authorities.

So sorry, you can’t have it both ways. If you support government action to prohibit something, ANYTHING, then you have to take ownership of the means they use to carry out YOUR WILL. You may not really like how they do it, but since it’s YOUR WILL, man up to it. Or just support the RE-legalization of ALL drugs that were legal prior to 1914. Woody Wilson was behind the whole mess of making drugs illegal; not for medical reasons, but to control different segments of the population. He was a roaring racist and quite open about it. HE segregated the military, an act which stood for over 45 years, til after WWII. He supported Margaret Sanger, the Planned Parenthood Eugenecist and Founder.

You seem to have the idea that government can bring folks to their senses, if only they could pass and enforce just that one more law. Your heart might be in the right place, but your methodology isn’t. And the invariable result is an event like this. ALWAYS. Because that’s how government works. It is FORCE, simple but hardly pure. And government wants to GROW. It offers nothing but force and forced growth. We must always rein in government, but when it gets the approval of good hearted folks with simple minds to “promote good,” something totally impossible for it, government grows like Topsy and needs the Tree of Liberty menu to shrink it again. I would wager a goodly sum that you and I are not so far apart in our desires for this nation and that we could discuss such for hours. However, we differ mainly in thinking that government can make a difference for good in folks’ lives, if only the “right people” were running things. You, like Pollyanna, think that’s true, while I, based on history AND current events, know that to be wishful thinking gone amok.
