Lois Lerner Emails: Nothing Digital Ever Dies
RealClearPolitics ^ | June 19, 2014 | Carl M. Cannon

In 2007, while co-writing a magazine piece with Silicon Valley author and entrepreneur Michael S. Malone on best Information Age practices for politicians, I coined a phrase Malone instantly dubbed “the Cannon Codicil.”

Postulating that electronic messages, like diamonds, last for forever, Cannon’s codicil simply holds that “Nothing digital ever dies.”

“The Obama administration’s claim that the IRS has ‘lost’ two years of Lois Lerner’s emails is implausible to anyone who understands how email systems work,” writes conservative attorney John Hinderaker, a Claremont Institute fellow. “The Obama administration is lying, and lying in a remarkably transparent way.”

Congress should get someone like Hinderaker to consult and sort through this mess. They don't have the knowledge and I'm willing to bet their IT people don't either.

Unless the IRS servers had multiple simultaneous catastrophic failures, those emails still exist and the IRS is just flat out lying because they KNOW that Lerner’s emails lead all the way to the White House.

It takes quite a bit of tenacity and intelligence to setup an enterprise email solution. I spent over 6 hours setting up Postfix and Dovecot in my home Linux environment to run my own email setup. A robust Exchange environment takes a couple days to configure and test assuming you have all the hardware and networking components in place.

This sort of configuration, a cross-continental government setup with hundreds of nodes and thousands of employees would require an army of IT specialists in networking, servers, storage, and operating systems with several hundred hours of setup, testing, support, administration, etc. I have no doubt in my mind that there are people in government IT who know this is false but value a paycheck over the truth.

“Thrown away” actually means in a top secret, maximum security vault somewhere.

No Leftist would trust such damning evidence to be forever hidden in a publicly accessible landfill or waste containment center.

This is what the leftist “base” wants.

Stick it to conservatives, YT, etc, and do it in a way that is transparently aggressive and blatant.

Maybe a tea party PAC shoudl raise the dough to setup anyone who can retrieve such infro from the IRS conmputers a lifetime retirement in luxury ie. about 10 million bucks.

Or put a $1,000 bounty of every unique e-mail from Lois Lerner in the time frame the E-mails were supposedly lost...

And add a bonus of $10,000 to every additional 100 e-mails retrived...

What these idiot Republicans do realize, is a long concerted effort was giving to removing all traces by whatever means necessary. The last step was destruction of the physical devices.

That is why they stonewalled, to give them time to clean it up. It may not be gone for good, and some items may turn up but it will ba far in the future. The smoking guns are gone.

It could turn up in a cache somewhere but those are short lived. The repositories are gone.

It is possible to make email messages disappear forever. I say that as one who has configured mail servers to be impervious to computer forensics. Its actually not all that hard though it comes with some risks.

However the government is mandated to keep its records and have backups. This is why the IRS issue stinks.

They are lying, and will get away with it because of a brain-dead ignorant American public and a compliant media.

Hinderaker, a founder of the powerlineblog.com, is a very good writer and reporter as well as a lawyer. This statement come from yesterday’s Powerline.

We are fortunate in Minnesota to have him as he also uncovers things in Minnesota politics that are ‘not kosher’.

No Leftist would trust such damning evidence to be forever hidden in a publicly accessible landfill or waste containment center.

Especially if you need those emails to keep your pawns in line.
