The nation of Sweden is demanding that the Obama administration act to deny copyright status to the Minnesota Vikings, claiming the name demeans its citizens and all other Scandinavians.
We can no longer tolerate the use of this disgusting epithet by an American football team, said Swedish Prime Minister Olaf Milkquist in a letter to President Obama
First of all, football means soccer, Milkquist wrote. I realize that this is an unrelated matter, but it really pisses people off in Europe. You only use your foot occasionally in football, whereas in soccer the foot is the only thing you can use. Or at least the main thing.
Secondly, the term Vikings suggests a violent race intent on pillaging small villages and stealing their women, Milkquist continued. In fact, the Vikings were a peace-loving people who spread goodwill throughout the world and grew strawberries in the summer.
Milkquist wrote that the proper term is Norsemen, saying, Please tell your patent office to rename the team the Minnesota Norsemen.
He noted that a group of Minnesota Vikings were at one time referred to as The Purple People Eaters, adding, See what I mean?
Milkquist called the U.S. ambassador into his office Wednesday, handed him the letter, and smacked him in the face. He also suggested to the ambassador that the United States change the name of the Green Bay Packers as well. Its nothing against Sweden, its just bad name, he said. You Americans have no taste.
The White House said it would immediately begin proceedings to . . .

I visited the Olympic Penninsula in May.
There is an indian reservation there, on the Pacific Ocean. The tribe highschool sports teams are the Red Devils.
That un pc slur is both ethnic and religious. But...... on the tribal national lands, it is probably not subject to the offense spewed by other tribes.
Why would anyone object to be called a “packer”? Everyone knows it is something to be celebrated.
Hey it’s time that the NY & SF Giants change their as it is offensive to midgets and short people.
FYI..on a lighter note...read the article...it’s a hoot..
They took all the handles.
The Scots had chiefs and arrowheads. There are no Indians on their logo.
as a Christian, I’m offended by New Orleans using the name ‘Saints’ for their football team. Everyone knows that NOLA is on the complete opposite side of Christian saints.
</sarcasm>
Have you forgotten the San Diego Padres?
The Democrats should be forced to changed their name as well as we all know they are not democrats but Socialists!
Depends on how good or bad their season is going.....
That would be the Human Rights Campaign
The Viking Kittens!
National Society of Williams demands Buffalo change its team name.
Crayola demands Cleveland change its team name.
Protestants demand New Orleans change its team name.
Cash buyers demand San Diego change its team name.
PETA demands Denver, Atlanta, Seattle, St Louis, Cincinnati and almost every high school in the US change their team name.
American Propeller Aircraft Enthusiasts demand New York change it team name.
Short People Everywhere demand New York change its other team name.
As a 40-year Viking fan of Swedish extraction, I would submit that the team's play does that on its own.
There's a reason the Packers wear Green And Yellow. (ducking)
And as an American of Swedish descent I am offended as well. Mostly because they were so awful last year. Free tickets to a game or a jersey might ease some of my offense!
Norseman is discriminatory. I would recommend Norseperson.
As someone sometimes afflicted with premature ejaculation, it the “Sooners” name adopted by the University of Oklahoma offends me. If reports are true that nearly 35% of men in the US have at times faced this challenge, sufficient constituency clearly exists for the USPTO to take action against the University of Oklahoma similar to what they have done with the Washington Redskins. The University should be made to adopt a name more socially acceptable, one that does not offend so many people. Say perhaps the Oklahoma “Laters”... cause they are always talking about “next year.”
