You can forget about unleashing data recovery experts on the hard drive containing Lois Lerner’s emails – that hard drive has been destroyed. Richard Bade reports in Politico:
“We’ve been informed that the hard drive has been thrown away,” Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, the top Republican on the Finance Committee, said in a brief hallway interview.
Two additional sources told POLITICO the same late Wednesday, citing IRS officials.
Odd, isn’t it, that nobody mentioned this before. Supposedly, recycling is standard procedure for damaged hard drives, and we all know how important recycling is to Saving the Planet. Just try using that excuse, that you recycled your receipts, when the IRS audits you.
Meanwhile, the White House is claiming that they have no records of any suspicious emails from Lerner to people there. The AP reports:

The only reason they’ll get away with this is because the GOPe wants them to. Their excuses are flimsy and transparent to the extreme. Everyone who bothers to repeat the lie about a hard drive crash having any effect on what emails they can recover is doing the bidding of the powers that be.
No. Holder was held in Contempt by the House and Harry Reid couldn't do a thing about it. Also, each chamber has their own Sergeant at Arms.
Guess we now know how the prezzy went from, this is wrong and we need to investigate, to, there is not a smidgen of proof. He basically has admitted culpability in the destruction of the emails.
This is less, far less, than the corruption that took down the Nixon presidency. At the moment the crooks are winning.
This bunch of crooks in the White House make Nixon look like Abe Lincoln. However, U.S. taxpayers should expect the very same understanding sympathy when they have no records of their tax dealings and the IRS demands proof.
I was thinking about that. The recipients we are interested in are in high places. So, absent testimony from Lerner that she corresponded with these people, how do you pierce the Executive Privilege presumption? You'll never get to fish around in the email server files of Barack, or ValJar, or any of the staff that may have been assigned this project without some testimony or documentary evidence from Lerner.
Gawd, I hate these people!
This has always been about creating “plausible deniability”.
I don’t understand why your post hasn’t stirred up a a complete change in this thread’s discussion. A cursory reflection on the the context and magnitude of this scandal (using executive branch agencies as weapons to alter the outcome of a national election and a necessarily massive cover up) and the nature of the players involved, of course they planned this in advance and took steps, ahead of time, to ensure there would be no digital smoking gun!
You’re exactly right, this didn’t happen spur of the moment, as if it was somebody’s afterthought. We’re dealing with the most sophisticated and powerful, and best financed criminal enterprise the world has ever seen, by a huge margin. That any thinking FReeper would even for a moment fail to see this all had to be orchestrated far in advance and that a lot of thought and resources would go into covering all tracks, is rather mystifying. We know what happened. Pretty much everyone paying attention, regardless of their politics, knows what they did. Dem insiders and zealots alike always secretly know what’s really going on even as they obfuscate, lie, project, disparage accusers they know are telling the truth and all the rest. The notion they wouldn’t take sweeping steps to make it unprovable, deniable, with the confidence the media would as always have their backs, is preposterous in my opinion.
I’ll submit that if they weren’t fastidiously careful, there’s really no way something damning wouldn’t have already come to light. Especially considering the scale of the operation. Same with the myriad other scandals. It’s entirely possible the missing emails are nothing more than what someone thought a clever red herring and that all communications were by other means.
This reminds me of the lead up to the Obamacare SCOTUS decision. Obama’s smug confidence about the decision, weeks before it was handed down, screamed that the fix was in. All we had to do was let the passage of time confirm it. He’s a terrible actor, despite constant practice, and whenever he exudes confidence like that, be sure he knows something hidden from us and that the matter will play out in his favor. How he learned Roberts’ position, or whether Roberts was “influenced” somehow, I have no idea. But there’s no question in my mind he knew the outcome in advance. In this case, everyone involved knew there wouldn’t be anything tangible that could be leaked or or discovered, inadvertently or otherwise. If incriminating emails exist and can be found as so many here and elsewhere insist, then this entire administration and the democrat party would be sweating beneath Damocles’ sword, wondering if/when their decapitation will occur. The entire media, including Fox News if it had a mind to, couldn’t rescue them. That isn’t happening and they wouldn’t let it happen, having the abundant means to prevent it beforehand. I’m sure most IT professionals would agree that with the right and sufficient resources and absent the constraints of conscience and the law, there are ways to cover electronic tracks if they’re already in place before the communications take place.
Our only hope, I believe, is that enough circumstantial evidence surfaces and witnesses can be made to spill what they know that the whole charade comes apart. If that happens in connection with any of these historic scandals, we just might see the rest all of them break open. God willing! It would be nothing but fun reading the body language of the criminal in the WH after that happened, if he ever showed his face publicly again. But I really wish folks would acknowledge the obvious which you laid out so well in your post.

A little off the books punishment would go a long way towards persuading IRS people to talk.
