I’m glad the gov has initiated the call-up of the DPS.

I'll believe it when I see it!

Fellow Texans, keep burning up the faxes, emails and phones at the governor’s office and the offices of your representatives!

Ask what they intend to do about the massive invasion of illegal aliens into Texas, bringing crime, disease, drugs and unbelievable expense to the state to care for them.

This is sheer insanity!

HOUSTON, Texas—Governor Rick Perry (R-TX) appeared on Fox News’ Fox and Friends show and said Texas lacks the resources and manpower to secure the 1,200 mile Texas border... BS!

Other Texas elected officials, speaking on condition of anonymity have told Breitbart Texas that Texas does, in fact, have the resources to conduct not only a surge operation, but a prolonged border control operation that would secure the Texas border with Mexico.

Request for Immediate Texas Border Control

We, the undersigned, because the federal government has failed to act, call on the Texas Legislature to develop and fund a border and port of entry security plan utilizing state and local law...

On the TX member’s Action Board - a link to fax Perry and phone call to make to your R Reps supporting Rep Louie Gohmert’s Fortify the Border Amendment.

You have to be registered at NumbersUSA....it’s worth joining for all of the faxes you can send to your elected officials. These are good guys, who’ve been fighting the good fight for YEARS.

Additionally, anyone can call Perry and anyone can ask their Rep to support Gohmert's amendment.

The states collect federal taxes and send them to the feds. Texas should continue to collect the federal taxes, but not send it to the feds, but instead use it to do what the feds are refusing to do - shut off the flow of illegals into the state. Yeah, the feds can sue. We can tell them to go pound sand!

“Local militia leaders have not ordered anything - a stand down or otherwise. That’s the whole point. This call-to-action is from a rogue group.

It is premature to head down there until Texas DPS is in place, has eyes-on,and can provide an assessment. Local Texas Militia leaders (at least in my area) want to be asset to DPS not a hindrance. Having a bunch of disorganized yahoos running around will get good people killed.

A coordinated effort is in the works.”

Many thanks for this info; since “eternal vigilance is the price of liberty “, we should watch and wait for things to be in place.

Also, here’s what ray76 posted on the other thread, about the militia

Governor Perry can call forth the state military forces and the reserve militia to repel the invasion.

This is not a news story, it has no news media or other substantiation.

It’s a call-to-arms written by a person on Facebook last night regarding a letter that Gov. Rick Perry wrote to Obama over 2 weeks ago. In the letter to Obama, Perry says that Texas has been requesting/demanding increased border security since 2012 because of increased violence and deaths on both sides of the border over several YEARS.

This is NOT a recent escalation in violence or deaths. Again, the Texas militia “call-to-arms” was originally written by one person on Facebook last night, and it’s been shared too many times. I don’t think it’s real.

My point is, DON’T go hysterical and start sharing a false-flag call-to-arms that seems to originate with ONE GUY on Facebook (who seems to be trying to raise $10,000 for a border security movement. If this guy is some sort of Left-wing instigator, he could get people killed over this bullshit; in which case you DO NOT want to be sharing his “call-to-arms” on Facebook.

I mean, it actually does NOT MAKE SENSE to be using Facebook for communicating a militia “call-to-arms”... Unless you don’t mind IMMEDIATELY sharing that information with the NSA and Homeland Security... Don’t forget, Facebook is NOT a friend of any militia group. Period.

Once more, it looks like this one person on Facebook is unilaterally making a “call-to-arms” based on a two-week-old letter that Gov. Rick Perry wrote to Barack Obama... Rick Perry’s letter DID NOT and DOES NOT request “militia support”... Perry’s letter demands increased Border Patrol security from the federal government. That’s all.

The gov has acted; he is calling up the DPS:

We need to be watchful.

Beats me. I know nothing more that what’s on this thread, and all of it is suspect.

Perry did, however, ordered a DPS “surge” on the border yesterday. My understanding is that he and Dewhurst signed off on it several weeks ago, but Speaker of the House Strauss, who’s approval is also required, would not agree until yesterday.

We don’t need rogue militias making the situation worse.

The governor doesn’t “call up” the DPS. The DPS is active across Texas 24/7/365. This is just a re-allocation of resources to the border with the funding to support it.

Perry could, indeed, take further measures, such as calling up additional forces like state militias or the National Guard, but, as far as I know, that has not yet happened.

A note about that letter - It has been sitting on Joe Straus’ desk for a while.

I’ve read quite a few comments about Gov. Perry’s supposed lack of action from people who don’t know much about Texas government and politics. (Not y’all.) Yes, he can call up the militia, but there is more involved than simply calling them up. Coordination and agreement among Texas leaders is necessary for an effective operation.

So the critics need to know two things. First, the Texas governorship is different from other states. Second, Rick Perry is leaving that office and Greg Abbott is likely entering that office, which creates a whole host of issues for a lot of Texas leaders.

Perry has been in office a long time and appointed many, many leaders during that time. He effectively has more power by virtue of his influence than the direct powers granted to the office. He has done a lot of negotiation behind the scenes to effect a coordinated operation.

Welcome to Free Republic.

Up-thread, I said essentially the same as you. This is an illegitimate call-to-action by a rogue group. lf/when we mobilize, it won’t be through FB. (*spits*)

Could very well happen, but I’m thinking he is really underestimating the will of the people and those that wear a uniform. As if all those folks will just blindly follow the will of his commands, especially if there’s a chance they could be staring at their brother or cousin on the other side of the line.

He might get more than he bargained for in Texas. Or any other God fearing, Gun Loving state. Especially one that is home to lots and lots of vets. I’m in LE and I know quite a few that will have no problem refusing orders if they ever come.

He might just end up getting on one of Soro’s jets and being run out of town if he pushes it that far.

I go to the border a couple of times a year. This is not new. I have seen more DPS troopers in the border area than in any other part of the state. But now that Perry is going to fund them well, this is a good sign. baraq and his gang are encouraging the invasion and Perry has to respond.

And don’t forget, Perry will be replaced this year.
What would Windy Davis do?
What would Gregg Abbot do?

I think Abbott will do just fine.

Not a Perry fan, see him as an opportunist. In this case, it works to our advantage. He has national political capital to earn here, but it’s probably going to take more than the DPS to do it. That border is bigger than the manpower currently working on it.

Perhaps the increased funding also means more uniforms?

I wouldn’t be opposed to Perry declaring a state of emergency and calling up the various official air, army and state guard units.

But no vigilante militias. Not a good idea.
