The flap is particularly notable because Ernst's allies have been sensitive to sexist attacks. So when her husband called Napolitano a "traitorous skank" the gaffe was not in the "traitorous" part but in the "skank" part.
I am just trying to keep current on today's PC regs.

Looks like the Des Moines Register is going all in to help their favorite goon, Bruce Braley, and destroy Ernst quickly. However, will these attacks really sway anybody? Seems like a dumb line of attack to me, but maybe that’s because I think Mr. Ernst seems like a remarkably observant man.

The first instinct of EVERY Republican candidate.
Denounce and apologize for any violation of politically correct speech.
If she can't stand up for her own husband, how is she going to stand up for Conservatives?
BTW - has “skank” changed its meaning?
Not that long ago a national ad campaign attacked “skanky” beer.

Surely an insult to skanks, comparing them to Janet.

Her husband needs to shut up, even though I agree. If your wife is a public servant, you can’t walk around insulting people in such a personal way. He may be one of those spouses with hidden jealousy who wants to sabotage her career climb.
If Mr. Ernst keeps this up, it is being done to damage his wife, for whatever reasons. I’ve met people like this before.

Wait, I just read another article a bit ago and it was Shrillary McPIAPS he was disparaging. What’s up?

It won't take much to tip this election toward the Democrat.
In 2012, Obama received 51% of the white vote.
Statewide, Ernst is not well known.
Chuck Grassley, the current GOP senator, is an Iowa institution, and he could pull down about 65% of the vote.
Ernst won't get any where near that number.

Unfortunately, the comments one makes on Facebook have no expectation of privacy, nor of being in a closed loop, though doubtless, even an encrypted e-mail would have been found if it took that much digging. While I fundamentally agree with the characterizations, Mr. Ernst would do well to realize what you say can hurt you in the court of public opinion (well ginned up by the media, of course).
The sad part here is that he puts his wife in a position of having to distance herself from her husband's remarks. Awkward.
Time for hubby to play on the team, and pay attention. Democrats can get away with almost anything, but Republicans are held to a higher standard, both personally, and especially by the Democrat press.

This is more of a cause célèbre for the liberal groups like Progress Iowa. Braley has no mention of it on his facebook. He’s talking about the Koch brothers and working across the aisle.

For Janet Napolitano, Skank would be a promotion.

Think twice before speaking, three times before writing, and four times before posting. Twitter and Facebook have damaged or destroyed more campaigns lately than anything else I can think of.
To: ObamahatesPACoal
Her response should have been, ‘Is my husband not entitled to his opinion or is the thought here that because I'm a woman I must submit to and share his opinion?’ She should refrain from making anything close to an apology for his comment and I don't understand why she's distancing herself from the comment. She should be insulted and instead turn the criticism back on those doing the criticizing.

...her husband once called former U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano a "traitorous skank" on Facebook. And the problem is? If they're fishing this deep, Ernst's opponent must be in big trouble.
