Who in their right mind would want to be president of the US? Having begun with vaulting hopes, President Barack Obamas tenure serves as a cautionary reminder be careful what you wish for, you might actually get it. At home, Mr Obamas prospects of pulling off anything big are slim to none after last weeks thunderbolt from the Tea Party.
Meanwhile, US-trained units in Iraq are dropping their weapons and fleeing far inferior al-Qaeda forces at first contact. Even Baghdad looks vulnerable. Talk about being mugged by reality. On paper the job of US commander-in-chief is the most powerful in the world. In practice, your power to change things is waning yet there is no limit on your ability to take the blame. To repeat: what sane person could want the job?
The answer, of course, is lots of people, Hillary Clinton included.

I'm not sure it was just the Cantor race. Even though the GOPe knew it was almost impossible to ditch incumbents, they loudly proclaimed victory in every race they managed to hold the seat. They knew then that the margins of victory were in the danger zone.
I personally think the Cantor phenomenon started with Cochran. If one of their entrenched incumbents could lose, any one of them, then they were in trouble.

Luce declared the world would react with deep horror, I think, but also some amusement, to a presidential bid by Sarah Palin and charged Republican opposition to START shows there’s a greater hatred of Obama than there is a love of American national security.

From Luce’s page 4 October 24, 2008 article, “McCain’s troubles highlight party rift”:
The more trouble John McCain’s campaign encounters, the more it highlights the cultural divide between the “real America” the Republican candidate says he represents and the Washington “cocktail party circuit” that largely disdains it.
That circuit is swelling with disaffected Republicans. Some complain about Mr McCain’s selection of Sarah Palin, whose appeal to “Joe Six-Pack” may have been dented by revelations this week that she has spent more than $150,000 (117,000, £93,000) of other people’s money on her wardrobe. Others are upset at the negative tone of the campaign.

“Obama art is not for mere mortals” reads the headline to Financial Times reporter Edward Luce’s August 26 Denver Diary item. Luce described a shrine fit for pilgrimage by the likes of Chris Matthews or Lee Cowan, the so-called Manifest Hope gallery in Denver.:

“Three prominent Republicans declare their support for Obama” insisted the August 13 Financial Times front page headline. But who are these “prominent” GOPers that have gone Obamacan? Staffer Edward Luce pointed to two left-of-center Republicans ousted in the 2006 mid-terms and one Rita Hauser, who is no stranger to supporting Democrats for president:

More Hatred of Obama than Love of America
"If you picked two countries that would like to see a failure of ratification, it would be North Korea and Iran. And I think if that argument doesn't work with the Republicans, that sort of basic elemental national security argument doesn't work, nothing is. There's a greater hatred of Obama than there is a love of American national security."
- Financial Times Washington Bureau Chief Ed Luce, November 21 This Week on ABC, referring to the START treaty.
When has he EVER taken the blame for anything?
Sure there’s no difference between the parties?
The other day the GOP blocked the democrat student loan bill.
Think Reid or pelosi would do that?

The US Supreme Court lives up to its reputation as the judiciary of the 1 per cent . The decision to scrap campaign ceilings is shameful.
Americans are awake and wise, - - - witness the National Election of 2010.
Americans are stupid for keeping Speaker Boehner in Power for over 4 years to rubber-stamp whatever Obama, Reid, Holder, Jarrett and Pelosi have wanted.
If the shoe fits - - - -
Yes, but that has nothing to do with your earlier comment which I addressed.
You said there was no difference between the GOP and Obama.
So why did the student loan bill get shot down if they are the same?
Democrats wanted to increase the amount of money “loaned” to students.
Republicans wanted to keep the interest charged to students the same.
Neither the Democrats nor the Republicans wanted to privatize the Student Loan Program.
Neither the Democrats nor the Republicans wanted to oppose Obama’s 2009 +/- action of Nationalizing the Student Loan Program.
Thus, there is no effective difference between the Democrats and the Republicans on the topic of keeping the US taxpayer on the hook for the Federal Student Loan Program.
IOW, after all the speeches and voting, nothing will have effectively changed.
Only cosmetic change is possible with a rubber stamp GOP-E running Congress.
So there is a difference. The GOP blocked the democratic move to give hundreds of thousands of students a ridiculous break which would have cost taxpayers more. Wouldn't have happened with Pelosi in charge.
Your “difference” is how fast the US Taxpayer bleeds to death.
My difference is between Life or Death of our Republic.
Choose carefully, because it does make a difference.
You may not consider the difference between the parties substantial but there most definitely is a difference.
