A Salt Lake City police officer has been placed on leave after refusing an assignment to work at a gay pride parade.
The officer was among about 30 officers assigned to provide traffic control and security for the annual Utah Pride Parade on Sunday in Salt Lake City, said department spokeswoman Lara Jones.
"We don't tolerate bias and bigotry in the department, and assignments are assignments ... To allow personal opinion to enter into whether an officer will take a post is not something that can be tolerated in a police department," Jones told KSL.
She declined comment on the officer's reason for refusing the assignment.

As one who has siblings who are officers and having worked with hundreds of LEOs, I have never had an officer inform me that they were ORDERED to ignore established laws. Maybe they don’t patrol in the ‘right’ areas of the country.....
The Police Union will step up and support him, right?
You’re making the wrong argument. The LEO’s refusal to participate in the event is justified by his moral conviction. What should concern you, however, is the statement released by the dept declaring his beliefs against sodomy to be that of “bias and bigotry”.
Rationalizing this type of tyranny through impartiality is a sure way to Hell.
Then, they don't work in areas that are controlled by the Gaystapo. This is standard practice in those areas.
They really have no idea about diversity. How about a ‘gay greed’ or ‘gay sloth’ parade instead of the same old tired ‘gay pride’ stuff.

It's that "cost of doing business" argument that the Left has taken up: Cooperate in evil and keep your bigoted religious convictions to yourself.
So I’m guessing by the article not many of SLCPD’s finest signed up for the Pride (cometh before the fall) Parade. They only needed 30 out of a force of 400. So he had to be forced/assigned to the debauchery.
Cop should have called in sick or taken ‘comp” time. My guess he did it to make a statement of which I commend him for.
Or he’s a Christian and therefore honest.

Cops DO NOT protect. Cops DO NOT serve. Police show up AFTER the fact and take your statement.

Police CANNOT be sued when at the location of an active crime they do not put their lives at risk to save your miserable ass.

Apparently the powers that be want more homosexuals and cross-dressers in the department. And they want more people to become homosexual. Where will it end?
I worked with a guy when I lived in Asheville. His wife was trying to get on the police force. He said one of the cops told his wife she needed to be a lesbian to get hired or at least say she was. That was about 14 years ago. I’m sure it’s much worse now.
Sounds like the homos need the “sensitivity training” regarding heterosexuals.
Providing crowd and traffic control at special events is part of their normal duties.
If true then what is your opinion of the 29 other officers who performed their assignment, regardless of their personal feelings?

The replies on this thread are all over the map. From the officer should not be forced into working this march (No, an officer must first protect his dignity, his faith and family first) to it's OK to work this parade. (An officer’s duty is to uphold and enforce the law for EVERYONE, not for who they agree with.)

Yes, it’s a special event, bring in someone else. Also, if sodomy is so accepted, they shouldn’t need any protection etc anyways.
I will always back a guy or gal up for standing up for morality and what is right.
