At Fort Ord in the 1960s in California my mother and I were going to the commissary. I was sixteen. I was told that I was not allowed to enter because I was a ‘child’ and they suggested that I wait in the adjacent ‘nursery.’ So I sat and waited over an hour in a hot car. I didn’t go anywhere near a Comm/PX until I became an Army spouse. Today the PX or BX complex is full of kids and babies.

I addressed both of your comments already. Use the eyes and brain God gave you.

I don’t know what part of the Exchange you worked in, but when I came on active duty in 1971, officers were prohibited from wearing Levis or other sorts of blue jeans to the base exchange (AAFES) at a Strategic Air Command base. Enlisted, yes, but the jeans had to be clean and “presentable.” Nobody would have been allowed to wear workout clothes.

I am still amazed, though, that the Commissary (not part of AAFES) would have a strict dress code for kids. If true, it is probably something the local command came up with.

You seemed to be on both sides of it. If I misinterpreted it’s most likely b/c you can’t write for shit. Therefore I cut to the chase. Any support of this kid being kicked out b/c “it’s the military, whatchagondo?” is just stupid.

If he were wearing a dress they’d have let him in

And he’s the wrong color as well. The kid should have known better.

I sat next to someone wearing them who was not aware of his foot odor.

That's how I am different, I am always aware of my foot odor...

The kid was with his mother, which is why people are scratching their head.

Me too, we are Retired over 65, hubby is Ret. SCPO, I do the shopping. And can tell you I’ve never seen a kid ejected or a adult for this type of dressing. There is not a thing wrong with it, it covers well, and is not offensive. I have seen young teen and adult women in more skimpy clothes at both the Exchange and Commissary. Not down to the 2 piece swim suit type, just more skin showing.

It must be a base by base issue. Sure not at Millington, TN Navy Base BUPERS. They go in, in running gear even. As long as there are shoes, shirt, and shorts or pants, that cover the strategic areas fully (NO BARE MID RIFF stuff) there are no restrictions for the spouses and families on or off base.

In Uniform, it best be correct or some shopping Brass will tell you, you are not in proper uniform. PT Uniform is not allowed, is correct CLL.

Brass come in off the golf course just as they went on it.

This was just pure harassment of a child, probably by some muzzie it offended.

There are NO dress code signs up in our Commissary or Exchange. Enlisted know the rules about dress. Families are not held to same standards.

Now the people who use both facilities are better dressed that a Wal-Mart shopper. There is a vast difference. And you get good service. Worst thing about our Exchange is they carry more for the Brass than Enlisted, $200 for a stupid Vera W wallet is outrageous. $65 for a POLO T shirt with collar, is outrageous. Considering all were china made for about $3 bucks.

Looks like a Patriotic T and long shorts to me. Common clothes. Not work out gear. All are available at the Exchange in fact. More than likely bought there.

Apparently, in at least one case, I can.

I agree. You have to wonder what agenda is driving this.
