Starbucks, Chipotle, Sonic and other food and drink chains have an unexpected new ally in their recent decisions to discourage the carrying of firearms in their establishments: the NRA.
On Friday, the NRA weighed in on a spate of recent open carry rallies across Texas, calling them scary and shows a lack of consideration and manners out of character in the Lone Star State.

I prefer a more low-key approach. Under the radar.
Me too. Carry concealed.
The lefties are showing a video of a foul-mouth moron insulting and humiliating people while me beragged about “excising his 2nd amendment rights”.
With friends like that, we don’t need enemies.
I have to agree with them. I have actually been wondering if what these aren’t secretly leftist groups attempting to undermine all our progress. Getting in people’s faces at public restaurants with assault rifles? WTF are they thinking?
I really don’t know what the popular sentiment is here and truly don’t care on these open carry demonstrations.
It’s the 2nd amendment equivalent of the Nazi’s wanting to march in Skokie.
Okay, great, legally speaking you have the right to do it. From a PR standpoint it’s asinine and from a public engagement standpoint its foolish. You’re not going to win any converts carrying an AR-15 and its variants, AK-47, SKS or any semi-automatic rifle into well populated gathering places.
It’s no different to me than going on a racial epitaph shouting spree at an NAACP gathering and then telling the crowd you mean to engage in an honest discussion on racial animosity.
One minute, the NRA is a force of evil, the next minute, they’re the voice of reason. Pick a side, libs.
The problem is, I refuse to ask permission to exercise a natural right. I am also not a law breaker. Ergo, I carry open.
Well if more of us would stand up for our rights instead of trying to hide them in shame, there would be less foul mouth morons.
Of course, a right IS a right. So why not exercize it openly if you choose? Because it’s a problem for NRA fundraising?
What these people are doing is the opposite of the left. The left wants guns hidden away so people react in fear when they see them after hearing the horror stories. That can’t work of people are seen with them regularly.
Works fine here in AZ.
As I stated on another thread:
This is to the second amendment what shouting fire in a crowded theater is to the first.
I'm a Second Amendment Nut.
But you are right.
Yeah, that's a real effective protest. A secret, invisible one. /sarc
Nothing weird or scary about them.
Why am I not surprised that these two opponents of open carry demonstrations hail from the east coast?
Sure....you carry an AR slung over your shoulder into fast food places?
Right?
Your town have more than 500 people in it?
Exactly. There are so many reasons why to conceal — element of surprise is one, harassment by the police (even though it may be legal, you have prove it) plus probable cause because weapon is visible.
And another opponent from Illinois!!! LOL
Open-rifle-carry has supporters here on FR. See some of the other threads on this. I disagree with open carry of rifles in a manner which is likely to cause alarm to reasonable persons.
Based on recent history, if I'm in a diner having my coffee, and somebody walks in carrying a rifle (not just slung or cased, but carrying in his hand) my immediate thought is that a robbery or massacre is about to happen, and I'm very likely to draw on the rifleman. And I think myself to be as pro 2nd Amendment as they come.
It might be different in a rural place during deer season, but in an urban eatery it's just over the top.
I’ve been on the record for years here at FR that these OC groups have been over the top. I’ve been insulted and cussed out for years too. But there is a fine line between defending your 2A rights and abusing them. Grisham and his people do us no favors.
Now it looks like the NRA agrees.
