Sources connected with the Sterling family tell TMZ ... the trust agreement that governs the family's ownership of the team provides if 2 qualified doctors determine either Donald or Shelly shows "an inability to conduct business affairs in a reasonable and normal manner" ... they will then be stripped of control over the team.
We're told earlier this month Donald agreed to an examination by 2 prominent neurologists. He underwent extensive tests, including a CT and PET scan. We're told both doctors diagnosed Donald with Alzheimer's and concluded he may have had the disease for as long as 5 years. The doctors both concluded he did not have the ability to conduct the business of the team.

One other thing. If someone is talking/disclosing Sterlings medical info/records, they have legal exposure as well.
Thank you for that confirmation. I didn’t like her doctor much but I had no reason to think he was uninformed or incorrect about that. They don’t need a CT or PET scan to make a general diagnosis of dementia either. In fact I don’t believe that is possible but I’m open to correction there. A five minute Q&A test and five minutes of “grading” it is all that is necessary and it is quite accurate if the tester is trained to give it.
I'm not sure that it is worth the paper it's written on.
At least 2 billion of them.
I call BS and if this were my family, Id consider a lawsuit for elder abuse.
It's his family that's had him declared incompetent.
AN EXERCISE IN LIBERAL “LOGIC”:
- Ronald Reagan (Conservative) developed Alzheimer’s
- Charlton Heston (Conservative) developed Alzheimer’s
- Donald Sterling has developed Alzheimer’s
- Donald Sterling is an evil racist & bigot
Therefore
- Conservatives are ALL evil racists and bigots.
- Conservative beliefs will cause Alzheimer’s.
TE, I’m sorry you, and your mom are dealing with this horrible disease/condition. Both me parents (83 YO) are borderline at this time. For now, I have a good relationship with them. I know that the day will come when they become argumentative/combative. They know that too, and have asked me to “help” them when necessary. I will.
You may be referring to an MMSE (Mini Mental State Exam) used by professionals. I found one at http://www.health.gov.bc.ca/pharmacare/adti/clinician/pdf/ADTI%20SMMSE-GDS%20Reference%20Card.pdf
There are days I wonder if I could pass it. :)
Does this mean he can be excused for being a racist because Alzheimer forces the afflicted in to the past! He is not responsible for his actions!
Wow. I didn't know that.
Wow. I didn't know that.
I am sorry that both of your parents may have it. It isn't easy to deal with at all. I think combativeness is an early symptom and goes away as other problems arise. That was how it went with my Mom. Personality may be a factor in how argumentative/combative a person with dementia is too. Thankfully Mom is as sweet as can be (always has been) and she is too frail to be a physical problem for me.
I wish you the best in helping them. It may well be the biggest challenge you have ever undertaken.
I don’t remember hearing that at all!
Hearing what?
Retaining a bunch of PIs to investigate the competition doesn’t sound like an act by someone with dementia unless he’s been doing it for years.
Your mother’s doctor is right. It can only definitively be diagnosed after death. Currently, the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s is a differential one. Rule everything else out and that is what you are left with.
Well, not exactly. It can be diagnosed during life with a biopsy. It’s not worth it because, as he told us, the treatment/Rx is the same regardless of what kind of dementia it is.
Then, I believe all of liberal America owes the man an apology. I also believe that under the Americans with Disabilities Act, the NBAs sanctions against him should be ruled illegal. I further believe that they, Hollywood and Media, should be compelled to give him equal time to say any crazy-a$$ sh!t he wants to. /s
What’s wrong with Donald Sterling?
I agree. I think Sterling is what would be called sneaky stupid. I’ve talked with one of his former players ( this season) who thinks Sterling is brilliant. He told me that he admires Sterling because he makes unconventional business decisions, but always has a basis for them; and they are frequently successful.
I think the league is still sore about his moving the Clippers from San Diego over the objections, and litigation of the league.
It will be interesting to see reporting on the votes to strip his property away. If he has in fact been declared incapacitated, Shelly has a big potential liability for exceeding her fiduciary role. You probably know that he is being treated for prostate cancer. Cancer drugs can make some people do unusual things.
How convenient..........
I thought they had an agreement in principle to sell the team to Ballmer for $2 billion? What now? Is this an attempt to get out of it?
Hey if I owned a basketball team, I’d presumably be rich enough that I wouldn’t have to sell the team, and I sure as heck wouldn’t want to sell the team... but if you gotta sell the team, $2 billion is a pretty good price even for a team in Los Angeles.
Of course now that the price is $2 billion that means in 10 years some sucker will have to pay $3.5 billion or more. Imagine the Lakers should be worth even more.
