CNNs international correspondent Jim Clancy called the West Point response to President Obamas meandering foreign policy address pretty icy Wednesday.
Clancy said it was not really a great speech to give at the U.S. Military Academy, and the address has drawn bipartisan criticism.
It was a philosophical speech, he said. It was not a Commander-in-Chief speaking to his troops. And you heard the reception. I mean, it was pretty icy.
Obama said he believed strongly in American exceptionalism, but he continually used straw men in his address by implying that critics of his vision of foreign policy always advocated first and foremost for military action.
A panel on MSNBCs Morning Joe criticized the president for his announcement to fully withdraw American troops from Afghanistan by 2016, and even liberal Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson ripped Obama for giving a convoluted speech Wednesday.
There are individual problems that require individual solutions, Robinson said. And so that then sort of militates against some sort of sweeping Obama Doctrine that you can sum up in a bumper sticker. And I dont think we got one today, frankly. Hes against isolationism, but he is interventionist, but not unilateralist. Just because we have the biggest hammer doesnt mean every problem is a nail, just because we have the best military doesnt mean every problem requires intervention.
Good. There’s still hope.
Well Obama wants to replace them with illegals
There is nothing that he touches that he does not screw up.
Don't forget the part about gore bull warming.
The differences in response are remarkable...
and GWB didn’t use teleprompters.
The usual 20 to 30 percent were.

Watch out for the few that gave zero enthusiastic applause. They will follow orders no matter what.
And you foolishly believe that the young troops and junior officers are all libs; wrong again.
This crap that you cite is hardly pervasive and they are actions directed by the POS secdef UpChuck Hagel.
Also, the number of wiccans in the military is negligble; and just in case you think that wiccans are devil worshippers, you are wrong again. Throughout my career and after I’ve only known one wiccan and he was a patriotic and devoted to defending the Constitution as anyone you might find which is the only real measure of the loyalty of any military member. And, he didn’t worship the devil in any way. Their beliefs are protected by the same Constitution that defends your rights to believe as you wish.
Me, nine times,
my, five times.
The royal we about 3 times, and the word we talking about his administration 3 dozen times.
I think “icy” would consist of refusing him admission on the grounds he has no proof of identity. But barely audible applause is probably the best option, given the circumstances.
I really feel sorry for today’s military having a CIC that is totally undeserving of an one iota of respect.
I am not a fan of the gay lifestyle and am against gay marriage but I have to point out that Caesar, in spite of being a rampant bisexual, was a very charismatic, effective military leader.
“I really feel sorry for todays military having a CIC that is totally undeserving of an one iota of respect.”
I feel for those older members that were in before he was elected; the rest should have known better (or prefer the new military).
This might be a record. The last SOTU was 47 total.
Alrighty then. Bless your heart and thank you for your service.
I don’t “do” flame wars...you read way too much into my comment.

In this context, it's a forced expression to be polite.
Well, if the fraudulent pot-smoking punka$$ POS occupying the WH had been raised properly by a NORMAL mother and father, instead of the whack-job liberal commie-family he was spawned from, maybe he would have actually spent a few years in the service himself and possibly matured to a level-headed intelligent MAN.
Regardless, they serve the Usurper.
