CNNs international correspondent Jim Clancy called the West Point response to President Obamas meandering foreign policy address pretty icy Wednesday.
Clancy said it was not really a great speech to give at the U.S. Military Academy, and the address has drawn bipartisan criticism.
It was a philosophical speech, he said. It was not a Commander-in-Chief speaking to his troops. And you heard the reception. I mean, it was pretty icy.
Obama said he believed strongly in American exceptionalism, but he continually used straw men in his address by implying that critics of his vision of foreign policy always advocated first and foremost for military action.
A panel on MSNBCs Morning Joe criticized the president for his announcement to fully withdraw American troops from Afghanistan by 2016, and even liberal Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson ripped Obama for giving a convoluted speech Wednesday.
There are individual problems that require individual solutions, Robinson said. And so that then sort of militates against some sort of sweeping Obama Doctrine that you can sum up in a bumper sticker. And I dont think we got one today, frankly. Hes against isolationism, but he is interventionist, but not unilateralist. Just because we have the biggest hammer doesnt mean every problem is a nail, just because we have the best military doesnt mean every problem requires intervention.
And what actual proof or evidence do you have for your sweeping “correction”? I know for a fact you’re wrong.
One of the panel did mention that it is usual for the military not to applaud during presidential addresses. The fact that about a dozen applauded made it even worse for the president.
Those in POWER put this turtle in office. Why cannot we look at those in power.
What does it take to get the USA back to normalcy?
The people have the power yet they are losing their sense of life.
Live people. Why would I aspire to get a check from the government to sit on my ass when I have asked the creator to be here?
Understand God.
As I recall, Obama got an icy reception the last time he gave a commencement speech at West Point, in 2010.
It was a philosophical speech,...

No it was a narcissistic speech. All about him.
My nephew is going into the Navy in July. He attends church every Sunday, definitely heterosexual, and hates Obama.
Just look at the Air Force Academy and how they have Wiccan worship areas, tear down Bible verses from dorm doors cuz a Muzzie was offended...there’s lots of info to suggest the libs in service love the Bozo...
G
Rush played excerpts, and the response was exceptionally icy. It wasn’t even polite.
Duty, Honor, Country was probably the best speech ever given at West Point.
Depending on which radio news report you listen to ("sound bites" of the "commencement address"), you can hear either thunderously small applause (10 people, magnified) or tepid if not icy large applause (1000 people giving a perfunctory small clap or two)...
Worst C-i-C in history quite possibly, (or recent history - can't imagine Jimmah Carter was very good either, but perhaps did no harm?!)...JMHO
He would plead the fifth or claim executive privilege. Besides, what universe would Obama EVER appear before Gowdy?
I’d love to see it, but ain’t holding my breath
“West Point Gave Obama Icy Reception”
Gee — I can’t imagine why.............sarc...........
My personal pronoun meter is broken. So I don’t know how many times he said
I
Me
My
Mine
In the speech he was basically projecting continued weakness in American foreign policy. The cadets and the men they will lead are the ones who will pay the price for Obama’s weakness with their blood. No damn wonder he got an icy response.
I would gladly let this fool do my job once. Thats all
That he got an icy reception warms my heart.
I'll get back to you with the numbers.
Scroll to 17:10 for Bambi's intro and the response ... he left everyone waiting (standing up) for close to 7 minutes before walking in.
I wish Obama would heed MacArthur’s message and simply fade away.
