U.S. President Barack Obama will announce plans on Tuesday to seek to leave 9,800 U.S. troops in Afghanistan after the end of this year, a senior administration official said.

The entire country of Afganistan should have been carpet bombed 13 years ago. Presto, end of our “war” to try and find the “terrorist” training camps. But ending the war was never the idea. It never is when these politicians start wars in banana republics. It’s all about money.
Naw....announcing the dissolution of Congress.
“He will leave them there so they can die.”
That’s my take as well.
I agree he should keep his mouth shut - he likes to hear himself talk and gets people killed in the process. I would love to play poker with Zippy.
If they don't have enough Afghans to conduct training after all these years, then they never will.
I'd say the Afghan military is pretty much operating the same as Mexican Cartels....and protecting their assets.
Fight to win, or get out. Leaving them in Afghanistan is cruel to them and their families. I thought these Democrats didn’t like cruelty?
Obama has two goals. He and his handlers have worked hard to make the two goals coincide: Harm America and allies, enrich himself. Every decision he makes is based on those two. He’s leaving troops there because, either someone paid him for it, or he hopes more troops will get killed. If they’re in Ft. Sill, Ft. Riley, or Ft. Hood, it’s harder to get them killed without dealing with political annoyances (the workplace violence narrative can only be used so much).
Bingo!
I do not agree.
You know it’s getting bad when the Army has to have civilian contractor guards at the main gate of many bases because all the MPs are in Afganistan. And what’s this about retention being up. I would love to see how the sodomization of the forces and back to back to back tours in the Middle East are affecting retention and recruiting.
Well, it’s a good thing the job market stinks.
I thought Karzai said no. No U.S. troops at all.
The entire cancer of terrorist countries and enclaves should have gotten a judicious mix of nuclear and neutron bombardment.
For the really good library and “foundation” donations from abroad, he’d have to take a page from Bill Clinton’s strategy book:
First, give away national security secrets while in office, then have your wife string together a couple decades in the Senate and as Secretary of State where she has her paws on funds by the billions that can rake in donations by the millions.
We should pull out every american from that hellhole if they are not able to fight and remain hamstrung by this Obama regime. What are they there for? I realize there can strategic reasons to have assets close to Iran but not with such a small number of soldiers and this President would not use them for any noble purpose anyway.
So much for getting out.
That is the minimum number of troops needed to hold off the inevitable during Obama’s reign.
Idiot will leave a presence in Afghanistan but made a point of abandoning Iraq.
Here’s my thoughts........
1. I never agreed with the invasion of Iraq. Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11 and none of the hijackers were Iraqi. Most were Saudis. We should have invaded Saudi Arabia, taken over the country and that means all their oil wells. Not a thing the Saudis could have done about it. Getting back to Iraq, at any time since Saddam Hussein was installed as ruler of Iraq the CIA could have taken him out and replaced him with another puppet (precisely what he was for years). Saddam had generals that hated him. It would not have been hard to kill him. That was not in the interest of the US so it never happened. Only when he got too big for his britches and wouldn’t take orders did he have to go. But even then, the CIA could have taken him out. I think the invasion of Iraq was because George Jr. listended to certain people about his father having the chance to take out Saddam and never did. So after a trillion dollars wasted and thousands of thousands of Americans killed I’m certain he thinks he he made the right decision, who knows. I only know that I thought it was a bad decision. I also think he was influenced big time by the warmongering, draft-dodging leftist neocons who think there’s nothing wrong with American soldiers dying as long as “democracy” is brought to another country. Which is nothing in the world but a pipe-dream, especially in the Middle East.
2. After 9/11 the US Special Forces could have covertly been sent to Afganistan or any other area of the world to weed out pockets of “terrorists” and kill them. No fanfare needed, no invasion of other countries needed. But the first thing I would have done in Afganistan is turn the country into a parking lot. The entire country. It’s easier to find someone if they have no where to hide.
