Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush said he would strive to be like Lyndon Johnson, the Democrat famous for expanding the U.S. welfare state through the "Great Society," if he were elected president.
According to the Miami Herald, Bush made those comments Wednesday night in San Antonio, Florida at Saint Leo University, while speaking about education, immigration, and energy policy.
Bush did not address Johnson's Great Society and War on Poverty programs, about which Ronald Reagan once famously quipped, "We had a war on poverty, and poverty won."

And just look how many of the same names pushed for Mitt. Look how many of the Bushies also show up pushing for moderation on social issue threads and condemning vile and evil ‘purists’ who would rather stick to principle.
Almost like it was a pattern. But nooooo...Surely they aren’t here to keep us from coalescing around an actual conservative. Surely they aren’t the GOP/leftist plants their actions align with wholly.
Shirley.
He’s being transparent, I like this now we know not to vote for this turd
How likely is a Hillary/Jeb ticket?
I’d say it’s not a possibility, but who knows, anymore. The GOP-E has been progressive/liberal for a long time.
Not a chance. Hillary will have a black or latino for VP and the community organizers will be “wink winking” about her failing health. Gotta get the entitlement army stimulated.
When was the Bush family democrats, before FDR?
We could use a CONSERVATIVE who utilized Johnson’s forceful style of leadership.
But not a Bush RINO.
Bingo!
Badass is tame..........
great post! I’ve lived a few miles from the LBJ library all my life but have never set foot even “on” the property much less “in” the building because I have always thought he was the lowest of the low to ever occupy the White House.
My feelings are not so much about “the Kennedys” as they are about 58,000 plus dead American boys some of whom were my friends. I despise also LBJ’s cronies in that debacle e.g. McNamara, Rusk, Westmoreland and others. Later there was Kissinger too. Nixon is the only politician in that war that did anything right when he ordered the Christmas Bombing. Nixon historically will be rated many notches above LBJ. It’s AMAZING to me how the this federal government of ours always end’s up with the dumbest of the dumb people running it. As someone recently said...”if the federal gov’t were put in charge of sand in the Sahara the Sahara would quickly run out of sand”.
Thanks for the ping.
Jeb Emulating one of the lefts biggest heroes?
Unless he went to Pelosi and Reid for most of the votes (assuming the GOP has the House and the Senate is about split) he wants I don’t see it happening.
James Madison: "Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their death."
John Quincy Adams: "The experience of all former ages had shown that of all human governments, democracy was the most unstable, fluctuating and short-lived."
And Benjamin Franklin, upon leaving the Constitutional convention, when asked about what manner of government had been provided for us, replied, "A republic, if you can keep it."
The good thing is most of the real leftists are gone. I’ve been here since 1998, and we’ve had some real zingers. My favorite was the woman who told me she would vote for Gabby Giffords over Randy Graf, because he was too extreme.
Last election there were a couple Romneybots openly telling us that we had to moderate on abortion. There are still leftists here. They just got smarter. Now that hedge their words more carefully and just spout the lesser evil line instead of being as open about their beliefs.
They aren’t as in your face, but they spam their favorite topics arguing the GOPe points. The early libs here were a lot more vicious.
I’m a 98er too so I remember the early days also. The last election was every bit as ugly as the old days IMO. At least on the threads I saw. Plenty of GFYs and FOADs flew. Plenty of accusations of Obama worship for not supporting their GOP liberal.
BYE BYE BYE BYE, did I mention Good Bye? Johnson was the most corrupt president in recent history with the exception of Obama. However, Johnson was much more adept in his corruption than Obama. Johnson should have been impeached but decided not to run for a second term due to his love for America. Obama does not love America.
Obama was honest, he told us what we would be in for.
With what Jeb is saying, he can’t possibly be running. He’s creating a toxic cloud around himself.
Oh, shiite. We gonna have another another lie about the Gulf of Tonkin?
No it’s not like the interstate.
No policies were mentioned. Jeb was talking about relating to Congress...that is all.
