IMPORTANT GOP House Primary Races: And How You Can Help (South & Midwest)

Posted on 05/15/2014 1:52:48 PM PDT by campaignPete R-CT

THIS IS FOR THE SOUTH AND MIDWEST
(NORTHEAST, WEST, AND CALIFORNIA are in separate threads and updates are coming, see links below)
This is an update of previous threads.

There are numerous important House Primary Races! And places where we can WIN! PLEASE contribute! And if you can't contribute money ... the least we can do is go to their pages and give them a "like" or a tweet. All of these candidates are involved in primaries that are close (or could be close) against generally more moderate or liberal Republicans. All of these districts are winnable in November.

Georgia:
BARRY LOUDERMILK, GEORGIA-11, MAY 20th ... Open Seat

Endorsed by: Family Research Council, Concerned Women of America, Freedom Works, Senate Conservatives Fund

Barry Loudermilk -- FACEBOOK -- TWITTER -- DONATE

Loudermilk has a shot to sneak past opponent Bob Barr or opponent Ed Lindsey to finish in 2nd place and make the run-off. He appears to have more support than fellow conservative Tricia Pridemore, who is likely to finish in 4th place. The district is R+19, so this primary is a big deal.

Alabama:
Scott Beason, ALABAMA-6, June 3rd ... 2 CONSERVATIVES trying to get into the run-off in this OPEN SEAT.

GARY PALMER, ALABAMA-6, June 3rd ... 2 CONSERVATIVES trying to get into the run-off in this OPEN SEAT.
Endorsed by: Gary Bauer, Ralph Reed, Tony Perkins

Scott Beason

Gary Palmer

Gary Palmer -- FACEBOOK -- TWITTER -- DONATE

Conservatives Palmer and Mathis need to get into the run-off in this crowded primary. I think you will find that their opponents Brooke and DeMarco are not conservative enough for FreeRepublic, Alabama-style. Conservative Chad Matthis has spent his campaign resources attacking Palmer and Beason. Article on AL-6 poll is here.

Florida:
Lorenzo Palomares-Starbuck, FLORIDA-26, AUGUST 26th ... Winner takes on vulnerable DEM Rep. Joe Garcia in this R+4 district

Lorenzo Palomares-Starbuck -- FACEBOOK -- TWITTER -- DONATE

Opponent Curbelo is a big favorite to win the primary, but there are still 3 months to beat him. Either Lorenzo, with his grassroots campaign, or Dade County Commission Chairman Joe Martinez will make a challenge. Frontrunner Curbelo is a vocal supporter of "same-sex marriage".

Curbelo: "I have many gay friends. They are hard-working people. They love this country. And quite frankly I think most of them would be Republican if some in our party wouldn't express themselves in such an unfortunate way." Read more here.

Palomares-Starbuck: "Free enterprise is protected under the Constitution by the freedom of Association clause, under the First Amendment, under the right to privacy among other, a tax law scheme that is predicated on income base taxation tends to discriminate against those who endeavor to create wealth in the society."

Iowa: I am listing 2 candidates in the IA-3 race
MONTE SHAW, IOWA-3, JUNE 3RD ... Open Seat
Endorsed By: Greg Ganske, Former Congressman, Jon King, brother of U.S. Rep. Steve King

MATT SCHULTZ, IOWA-3, JUNE 3RD ... Open Seat ... 2 CONSERVATIVES trying to win this 6-way race.
Endorsed by: Rick Santorum, Tea Party Express, Senate Conservative Fund

Monte Shaw

Monte Shaw -- FACEBOOK -- TWITTER -- DONATE

Matt Schultz

Matt Schultz -- FACEBOOK -- TWITTER -- DONATE

Both candidates are getting conservative groups to support them. Hopefully, the folks in the district will do what is necessary to put one of them in first place on June 3rd over opponents Young and Zaun.

Michigan:
John Moolenaar, MICHIGAN-4, August 5th .... OPEN SEAT

JOHN MOOLENAAR -- FACEBOOK -- TWITTER -- DONATE

This race is just getting started, for Dave Camp's seat. Moolenaar is running against Paul Mitchell. The race needs further research by us. "I will be a strong conservative voice for the hard working families of mid and northern Michigan. In Michigan I have fought against overreaching government policies that are killing jobs and over burdening individuals,” said Senator Moolenaar."

Michigan:
Tom McMillin, MICHIGAN-8, August 5th .... OPEN SEAT

TOM MCMILLIN -- FACEBOOK -- TWITTER -- DONATE

This race is just getting started, for Mike Roger's seat. McMillin is running against Mike Bishop. The race needs further research by us.

McMillin's argument is here.

I am not inclined to back Griffin for higher office after his flaky actions.

“French Hill” is quite a name. It’s also a neighborhood in Jerusalem. I have no idea if “French” is really his given name or a nickname.

What is with some these names, Willard “Mitt” Romney, Reinhold “Reince” Priebus, great names if you are late 19th Long Island Republican.

Some of the more amusing names of current politicians:

Patrick McHenry... one Mc away from being a revolutionary war figure

Thaddeus McCotter... sounds like a pre-civil war 19th century politician

William Clay... sounds like a pre-civil war 19th century politician

Daniel Webster... IS a pre-civil war 19th century politician

Tom McClintock... sounds like a stock character in B-western

Ted Yoho... sounds like an annoying game show host

Hal Rogers... sounds like a 1940s era cartoonist (Looney Tunes, Disney, etc.)

Tammy Duckworth... sounds like a character from Duck Tales

Dutch Ruppersberger... sounds like a character Arnold Schwartzenegger would play

Billy Long... sounds like a character Jackie Chan or any silly dubbed Hong Kong kung fu movie would have

Jeff Fortenberry... sounds like a character from a Mark Twain novel

Joe Heck... sounds like the true “secret identity” of a bad ass superhero in Marvel comics

Bob Latta... sounds like a drink you’d order at Starbucks

G. K. Butterfield... sounds like a brand of popcorn

Jim Cooper... sounds like a character on The Andy Griffith Show

John Carter.... “of Mars”

Adam Smith... “The Wealth of Nations”

Paul Ryan... George, Jim, Jack, etc.

LMAO!!! And how I have the Duck Tales song stuck in my head. I came across it on you tube a couple months ago, hadn't heard it since childhood, it was on in the morning and I used to watch it before going to school, due to time constraints I usually only got to see about half an episode.

I heard that they were making a Chip N Dales’ Rescue Ranger “live action” (CGI) movie.

I hope isn’t garbage, Disney already took a big steaming dump on my childhood with the Inspector Gadget movie.

Elections today, voting starts in a few hours.

Much attention has been given to Paultard Amash’s race (sadly he’s gonna win easily) and Kerry Bentivolio’s race (he’s likely to lose).

Much less to other important house primaries.

In MI-4 (Upton) State Sen John Moolenaar faces businessman and state party official Paul Mitchell. Mitchell is doing the “outsider” dance, which given that he was (is?) the State Party Finance Chairman.....

In MI-8 (Rogers) State Sen Majority Leader Mike Bishop faces State Rep. Tom McMillin.

I think all 4 of those guys are acceptable.

In Tennessee though

Chuck Fleischmann in CD 3 faces a rematch with RINO scion Weston Wamp. There is rat crossover for Wamp.

In TN-4 Incumbent Scott DesJarlais, who is not a man of character, faces several candidates, by far the most prominent being State Senator Jim Tracy.

The American Conservative Union has endorsed Fleischmann and Tracey and so do I.

Unfunny poll from Louisiana

RINO sleaze (who changed his mind about retiring) Vance McAllister 27%

Rat Jamie Mayo (a McAllister supporter from the last runoff) 21%

Ralph Abraham (R) 18%

Zach Dasher (R) 14%

Glascock Poll

Louisiana 6th, Rat Edwin Edwards 32%, RINO Dan Claitor 19%, Paul Dietzel (R) 19%, Lenar Whitney (R) 11%, Garret Graves (R) 7%

Graves has the most coin, it’s not helping him in the polls.

Louisiana 5th

http://www.thenewsstar.com/story/news/politics/2014/09/03/abraham-jumps-mcallister-th-district-poll/15025625/

Dr. Ralph Abraham (R) 22%, RINO Inc. Vance McCallister 20%, Jamie Mayo (D) 15%.

Glascock thinks the entry of Clyde Holloway into the race has hurt McCallister, Holloway BTW, despite being well known and having raised more money than anyone but McCallister, is polling at just 9%.

Abraham thinks Congressman should not be paid (great idea, no one but the independently wealthy would run) and says he’d donate his salary to charity.

I’m starting to seriously dislike these jungle primaries. It seems now that if and when 2 Republicans get in the runoff, the RINO seems to get the upper hand, not only sweeping all support from Democrats, but from the GOP Establishment as well. It would make it more difficult going to party primaries.

If Claitor ends up against Edwards, I will endorse Fast Eddie. I’m surprised he hasn’t switched parties as so many (even liberal White LA Democrats) have done.

Only just starting? ;) I can't tell you how much I effing hate them!

The leg abolished them for federal races, only to reinstate them after 1 election (2008), why why?

I’m hoping that Lenar Whitney wins the 5th (though all the Republicans there appear to be acceptable) and that Clyde Holloway makes a successful comeback in the 5th (he’d be our equivalent of Rick Nolan).

I wouldn’t call Holloway an equivalent of Nolan, since unlike Nolan, he was a perennial office-seeker (though despite having been out of Congress since LA lost its 8th seat in 1993, he has held office as a Public Service Commissioner since 2009).

I was looking up something on Holloway on Wikipedia and discovered the Black GOP candidate for LA Lt Governor in 2003, Kirt Bennett (who ran against both Holloway and Mitch Landrieu), had passed away in 2010 at just 42.

Supposedly to save money. We had closed primary and a closed primary runoff if no one got above 50% before the general, so I'm guessing they thought it would save cash by whacking one of the contests. Frankly it was stupid. Getting rid of general election runoffs helped Cassidy take out Cazayoux for LA-06. Plus we would have chosen a single Republican by now to take on Landrieu and not have the specter of a runoff that she could conceivably get a second chance to bounce back in.

I wouldn’t call Holloway an equivalent of Nolan, since unlike Nolan, he was a perennial office-seeker (though despite having been out of Congress since LA lost its 8th seat in 1993, he has held office as a Public Service Commissioner since 2009).

Impressively, Holloway won a seat that was more Democrat than the state as a whole (53% for Dukakis in 1988 and narrowly missed going for Mondale in 1984) and held it with little trouble until redistricting abolished his seat. That's quite a feat as we didn't even have shots in many southern seats that Reagan and Bush 41 won by double digits.
