MIAMI The Miami Dolphins have fined and suspended safety Don Jones for Tweeting his disapproval of a same-sex kiss that aired on ESPN this past weekend.
ESPN carried footage of Michael Sams reaction on Saturday as he learned that he had been selected by the St. Louis Rams, making their 249th choice overall. Sam and his partner Vito Cammisano embraced and kissed each other on national television upon receipt of the news, drawing applause from some and disapproval from others.
Miami Dolphins safety Don Jones was among those who expressed his disagreement of the public act, commenting on Twitter that he found it to be horrible.
He later removed the Tweet and one other surrounding the matter, but on Sunday, team officials leveled Jones with a finethe amount of which has not been announcedand suspended him from the team until he participates in sensitivity training.
We were disappointed to read Dons Tweets during the NFL Draft, Coach Joe Philbin wrote in a statement. They were inappropriate and unacceptable, and we regret the negative impact these comments had on such an important weekend for the NFL. We met with Don about respect, discrimination and judgment. These comments are not consistent with the values and standards of our program. We will continue to emphasize and educate our players that these statements will not be tolerated.

This one puts the civil rights coalition in an odd position...
More like an actual 3% to 4%, but they always go with the 10%.
First they came and diversified Detroit, and no one said anything; then they came and said how bad the Washington Redskins’ name is, and ESPN cheered; then they came and took the LA Clippers and the media hooped it up; then they came and took the NFL and there was no one to say NO TO THEM, but by the it was too late.
I too can do without my Giants and the NFL. Never thought the NBA was worth an Obama anyhow.
Also, where the Hell is the NFL Players Association?
Don't they care if a players Constitutional rights are violated by the player being punished just for exercising his Constitutional right to free speech? What contract clause stipulates a player can't speak out about what he believes is moral or immoral, in good taste or not in good taste? There are no trade secrets involved, no confidential information, where does their contract say they give up their Constitutional rights at the whim of an Owner or Manager?
Either way, that means 90-96% of the population isn't homosexual and is likely not into watching male same-sex wet kisses(I refuse to let them co-opt the word "gay").
The Dolphins have stated publicly that they will not tolerate intolerance from black players.
Hey, Don Jones, tell ‘em to take their job and shove it up their defensive end!
Something a bunch of morons would do.
Well they certainly are morons.
I have a “Packers” Watch that I got for Christmas HOWEVER if the “NFL” keeps up w/ THIS BULLSH!T I will put it away and NOT wear ANY “NFL” ANYTHING! I can get my Football “fix” with the NCAA(”’Huskers”, “Cyclones” and “Hawkeyes”)(until THEY GO “BULLSH!T”).
Don't you mean RAM it up their defensive end!?
Fire him if what he did is so bad. Fining and suspending him is BULL****!
...the actual issue here is that the team took any action at all...what he did may be vile (not to me), but he apparently did it on his own free time, using his own personal devices...and unless the team has very specific language concerning speech codes regarding protected groups, it’s action cannot be defended, and could be challenged in a court of law...
...as it is, we need to hear from the players union...let it earn its keep...
And the NFL will face the consequence of supporting faggotry.
Let’s hope. Their biggest game is Superbowl which had 110 million viewers in February 2014. Can we make it the least watched in history? I wish I had the same faith you seem to have. I think by the time football begins, this won’t even be in the news anymore.
We’re gonna become the first society in history to criminalize the natural reaction to homosexual acts.
“Dude! Wheres my First Amendment?!”
There’s no first amendment issue here. The player is free to say what he wants. We have freedom of speech. But that doesn’t come with freedom from consequence as a result.
The NFL is a private organization and the Dolphins are a private partnership. They don’t have to guarantee free speech without consequence and no government entities have violated his rights. I’m pretty sure if I tweeted repeatedly that my company sucks, I’d be fired.
While I may not disagree with his sentiment - he exercised his right to say what he did - but now he’s living with the results. Just like Donald Sterling.
It seems as though we already have. In liberaldom, “gay” is the new “black”
Just incredible . . . the National Pussyball League has sunk to a newer low than I thought possible . . . 1st Amendment ‘be go to hell.’ Rather than fine the disgusting a perverted slobbering between two homosexuals, they go after free speech. Is there any bottom to this mess?
More like “celebrate PERVERSITY”
IIRC, the Euros and the Canucks may have us beat on that.
“Were gonna become the first society in history to criminalize the natural reaction to homosexual acts.”
That’s the truth. A natural reaction to an unnatural act.
I'd hate to see them ruin your Packers watch for you.
You can still wear it for your good memories of the team and the old NFL, and of the person who gave it to you.
