Michael Savage: Pope Francis Should Redistribute Vatican's Income First

Conservative radio talk show host Michael Savage says if Pope Francis wants income redistribution he should start with his own Church.

On his Friday show, Savage said he would bid $1 million for Michelangelo's famous painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican.

"The reason I'm offering that money to the pope and the Vatican is so they can redistribute the wealth that begins in the Vatican itself," Savage said.

Savage said he was making a point that there is vast wealth within the Catholic Church, including priceless works of art and major shares in global companies. Gold ingots could be sold for redistribution purposes, Savage said.

Francis on Friday told a group of U.N. delegates, including Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, that they should urge world governments to back "the legitimate redistribution of economic benefits by the state, as well as indispensable cooperation between the private sector and civil society."

Savage's response: "It's Karl Marx in a papal outfit."

He noted that Francis is from Argentina, home to liberation theology along with much of Latin America, in the 1960s and '70s. And although Francis himself never practiced liberation theology, "he was certainly shaped by it," Savage said.

Sell the Vatican to the Muslims, they can turn it into a mosque. Would that make you happy? The treasures of the Church are the treasures of Western Civilization and have been enjoyed for centuries. Selling them to “cure” poverty would be short-sighted and ineffectual. That said, the pope should be exhorting Christians, not governments, to minister to the poor.

Actually it was $1 mil for the ceiling and a caller pointed out that it couldn't be separated from the building so Savage upped his bid to $1.5 mill.

Perhaps they should chisel off the reliefs and send those back to Jerusalem?

Was he trying to be funny? He needs to try harder. I can’t stand that guy. As a Catholic, I’ve been listening to this bilge my entire life. Bore, bore, bore.

So Michael has $1M lying around, and he's not offering the money directly to the poor?

Why should he? Savage isn't advocating for wealth distribution.

+1. The Catholic church is the second biggest land owner in the US behind the Feds. Oh and they charge full freight for rent.

Remember, there are people here who would like the Vatican and the Chapel to be destroyed. I’ve been told that by some freepers.

Not sidetracking anything. Just pointing out that Savage is not suited to critize things he doesn’t know about.

Mike has a point, but it’s silly. The wealth of the Vatican city/state is $3 billion. For comparison purposes, Harvard’s endowment is $35 billion. And the Vatican’s administrative staff is smaller than that of Notre Dame University.

Local parishes are locally owned and administered, and subject to the local bishop.

“EVERYONE is qualified to criticize EVERY lame-brained idea that is put into the public marketplace of stupid ideas.”

Sure, anyone can criticize, but to be qualified to criticize one needs to understand the issue at hand and have adequate background knowledge.

MS is lacking in this area.

I don’t think you’re an idiot. You’re right on the money. Let this wise guy be the first to re-distribute their wealth—if it’s such a great idea. Never happen tho...they’re too special and privileged. That’s only something the dregs and blood bags, to be leached off of, will need to do.

“Pope Francis is just a man (as was any other Pope).”

No argument there.

It seems you think I was raising Pope Francis to deity status. I was not. Did I not refer to him as a MAN of God?

A man of God is a fallible human that has made Jesus Christ their personal Lord and Savior and has the Holy Ghost indwelling inside of him. He is not perfect by any means - but he is saved.

Pope Francis is more open to the followers of proscribed Marxist liberation theology than to orthodox traditional Catholics.

According to cardinal Muller, the prefect for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the faith, and he himself a follower of liberation theology, pope Francis have close ties with that Marxist movement.

The Jesuits have been at the front lines of the expansion of the “liberation theology” through out Latin America.

From “Dark REBELLION in the Church” - Jesuits, theology of liberation, Carmelites, Marianists and Socialists: the final complaint.” Ricardo de la Cierva. P. 11-13

“Your theology helps the transformation of Latin America more than millions of books on Marxism” Fidel Castro to Leonardo Boff and Frei Beto in the presence of the Spanish Bishop in Brazil, Pedro Casáldiga, C.M.F., who plays end the phrase in his book Nicaragua, combat and prophecy, Madrid, helped, 1986, p.134

“The Mission of the Jesuits in the third world is to create conflict. We are the only powerful group in the world that makes it.” César Jerez S. J., provincial of Central America 1976-1982, at a meeting of Jesuits in Boston, New England Jesuit News, April, 1973.

“At the same time we Christians are children of a Virgin and a whore (Ivan Illich) and believe that this is the truth.” Ernesto Cardenal, priest and then Minister of Nicaragua, in the biography of J. L. González, Salamanca, “Follow me”, 1978, p.23

“Are the Communists, and not the Jesuits, who are winning the battle of atheism.” Igor Bonchkovski in New Times, n.40, Moscow, 1975

“The national planning of the Society of Jesus in the United States should, following the example of China, become an international planning. Towards the convergence of problems in all areas of the world around a single theme: the construction in different times and forms of a world Communist society.”

Strategic document of a group of Dutch Jesuits - in collaboration with other Jesuit revolutionaries—published for internal debate in the official journal of the society of Jesus in the United States, National Jesuit News, April 1972.

“Socialist societies are very ethical, clean, physically and morally. If it weren’t for his materialist doctrine it could be argued that they carried out the ethical teaching of the social doctrine of the Church.” Leonardo Boff on his return from a trip to Moscow, cfr.ABC, 16-VII-87, p.45

“Marxism provides a scientific understanding of the mechanisms of oppression in the world, at local and national levels; It offers the vision of a new world which must be built as a socialist society, the first step to a classless society, where genuine brotherhood can be hopefully possible, and by which deserves sacrifice everything.” Declaration of the theological Association of India in the magazine Vidyajyoti, of the Theological Faculty of the Jesuits in Delhi, April, 1986

Pope Francis has persecuted traditional Catholics that follow the Tridentine Mass, but it seems to maintain close ties with the leaders of the Marxist liberation theology, a movement condemned by Pope John Paul II and Benedict XVI and the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

Pope Francis has affirmed that he has met many Marxists in his life who are good people, so he doesn’t feel offended when he’s questioned about his Marxist proclivities. I wonder how pope Francis’ remarks would have been received if he were referring to the many good people he has met who were Nazis? After all, many more Christians have been murdered and persecuted by the “good Marxists” than by the “good” Nazis.

It is very worrisome that it is the prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, cardinal Muller, he himself a follower of the liberation theology, who confirms that Pope Francis has close ties with the liberation theology, something that is in clear defiance to the Magisterium of the Church.

“Sure, anyone can criticize, but to be qualified to criticize one needs to understand the issue at hand and have adequate background knowledge.”

As it turns out, there is not certifying body that determines qualifications to criticize. The marketplace of ideas has sharp elbows. Expect it. Expect to be slammed by every other viewpoint. Don’t fear it or be shocked by it.

If something is true, it can withstand any criticism. If it is false, it is better to know that now, if you seek truth. If you seek only to preserve bias, you will not like the process in the marketplace.

Savage is an intelligent guy. I heard his criticism and I believe it was legitimate. The pope was wrong to put forth this idea as true. It is false.

There is no “legitimate” form of theft from some - at the point of a gun - to give to others. It remains theft.

ROFL @ eat my words. Tell you what: you post your W2 along with your charitable contributions and I’ll do the same. We’ll see who gives more as a percentage of income.

In fact I challenge anyone on this thread who’s posting vitriolic posts back to me to do the same. Put up or shut up.

I know what my charitable giving was last both in dollars and as a percentage of my income. My charitable giving goes far beyond my church, and well over 10% of my GROSS income.
