ST IVES, CAMBRIDGESHIRE, UK –– An over-capacity crowd of around 650 people met UKIP leader Nigel Farage for the final town hall-style meeting of his pre-European Election tour of the United Kingdom. With UKIP swag plastered all over the Burgess Hall venue, Farage entered to rapturous applause, flanked by increased security following the assault on him earlier this week. Farage was speaking to the throngs of disaffected Brits, who have witnessed their livelihoods sacrificed for multiculturalism, big state-driven debt, and the transfer of sovereignty over their own lives from their local towns and villages to centralised governments in London and Brussels. He channeled Thatcher, he channeled Reagan, he channeled the Tea Party spirit, and as one audience member put it: "he channeled Enoch Powell." And he and his supporters rightly reject the 'extremism' myth, one that older conservatives found difficult to deal with when accosted by political correctness and double-speak. "Once you actually examine our positions, and what we stand for – you find we're not really extreme at all," Farage said. Immediately, the UKIP leader had the crowd in stitches and seemingly endless rounds of applause after almost every point he made. "Britain is led by a bunch of college kids who have never worked a real job a day in their lives!" he exclaimed, referring to the fact that most MPs and political candidates nowadays go straight from university into working in parliament or think-tanks, scarcely representative of the country.

Exactly. Faith is the key. If we return to God, He will deliver us, likely by raising a deliverer.
Have faith in God, people in America, and remain steadfast in your faith.
I really would like to see the Britain we all love return to its roots.
I am sad that the US is run by those very same childish brats that many in Britain want to be rid of.
I see this as a little ray of hope for the US. It is hard to see it at the moment.

It seems to me he resonates with the voters for the following reasons:
1) He can communicate effectively and with charisma.
2) He truly likes and respects the average citizen. He is genuinely comfortable mixing with the people. He doesn’t talk to them, he speaks with them. He enjoys fighting for them, not for himself.
3) He has core beliefs and he exposes them with conviction. No apologizes, no holding back.
The last American politician with this charm was Ronald Reagan. Since then we’ve had a string of teleprompter self centered political hacks who want to rule others.

What I've described it as is having the instincts about how to respond to fast moving events.
With the Bundy movement, none of those consitutional conservatives had those instincts to understand how fed up people are with the feds taking over every aspect of our lives. It was an opportunity missed to rally people around freedom.
You're correct. Ronald Reagan had those instincts. The other thing he had is an awareness of his limitations and delegated authority wisely. The only other president in my lifetime who had those two qualities was Eisenhower.

Reagan could communicate. He genuinely loved the American people. No one in the GOP today, including Cruz and Paul, has the emotional connectivity with the people Reagan manifested instinctively and comfortably.
UKIP is showing us the way—A new Party—not a Movement. Liberty Party to grow from American Independent and Constutional Party. All we need is a leader! We have them—they are waiting in the wings. Paging Sarah Palin! Paging Oliver North, Paging Sean Hannity!
We were bringing a little known leader from a nascent conservative party to town for a speech. He was touring Ontario and the front page of the local paper was predicting that certain elements would demonstrate against him.
The hall was filled to overflowing. The leader gave his standard stump speech but it was music to the ears of the crowd. They thirsted for someone to tell them the truth.
I still remember one of the jokes he told. He was from western Canada and he asked the crowd how many lawyers it took to grease a combine. They roared when he answered his own question, "about a dozen if you feed them in real slowly."
The leader's name was Preston Manning. From that rally, and hundreds like it all over Canada, the Reform party grew and eventually took over the Conservative party and the government. Prime Minister Harper is the inheritor of Preston Manning's success. The people of Canada are the beneficiaries.
Postscript, the rally was held in a large social club just outside of town that was not serviced by urban transit. The malcontents had to way to get there, so there was no demonstration against him. I called the newspaper editor the next day and asked him what happened to his front page prediction. It was a short conversation. The few times I read this paper, these days, I've noticed that they don't predict things anymore.

if only the UKIP would open a branch here in America for us independent conservatives. it would be nice to have some representation again.

So be it. Would rather vote for something and someone that shares my values than a phoney conservative party just to keep out Labour.

Labour brought Britain to her knees,both in the 70's and in the 00's.She's just recently been able to struggle up from her knees but is still quite shaky on her feet.In that weakened state,what would 5 years of Red Ed do for the country?
Only one of two people will be PM 13 months from now (and Farage isn't one of them...for better or for worse). One is noticeably imperfect,the other's a Maoist.As sad as it is sometimes,in the *real* world,one must choose the lesser of two evils because failure to do so will result in victory for the *greater* evil.
Britain survived 13 years of Labour before Cameron, I’m sure we can survive 5 of Miliband.
The issue of europe is fundamental to our democracy. I saw again, I won’t vote for someone or something that has disdain for things I believe in.
More and more people are waking up to that reality, and it will be to the benefit of us all in the long run. I believe in Nigel Farage and UKIP - If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be voting for them and sending them money.
