Subway removes ham and bacon from nearly 200 stores and offers halal meat only after 'strong demand' from Muslims
Almost 200 branches of Subway have cut ham and bacon from their menus, serving halal meat in response to calls from their Muslim customers.
The sandwich chain said 'following a strong demand from our Muslim customers', 185 outlets in the UK and Ireland have introduced the meat, which is prepared under strict Islamic rules.
In Arabic the word halal means 'permitted' or 'lawful' and defines anything that is allowed or lawful according to the Qur'an.
It is often used to indicate food - particularly meat - has been prepared in accordance with Muslim principles and techniques.

You think the halal food is served at only particular stores?
200 out of 1700 stores in UK and Ireland. I wouldn’t doubt that Subways in Dearborn, Michigan also sell Halal food as well. Subway wants the Muslim money.

A central commissary supplies the food, that’s part of the franchise agreement. The result is that non-moslems will be forced to eat halal food at Subway.

Now would be a good time to open a competing sandwich shop in britain. One that serves ham, non-halal meat, and advertises the fact.
When my Dad was young, some particularly cruel neighbors would invite him for dinner, on Fridays, during Lent. They would then serve hot dogs, and laugh at him, since he was forbidden to eat them. I can’t believe he actually went to the house, for a second time. I asked him why he didn’t serve the neighbor’s kids with sandwiches that were spat upon. “Trust me”, Dad said with a wink, “Spit would have been a lot better than what they ended up with, as an ingredient”.... :)

The New Testament prohibition against eating meat from idols has to do with not financially supporting false religion or giving the appearance of condoning the false religion.
Your point -— that the food itself is harmless, yes. Prayers and ritual sacrifice to allah are just meaningless mumbojumbo and have no effect on the food -— stands and is correct.
But it is a different issue.
Yes, I understand the danger of appearing indifferent. But I don’t think eating at Subway gives out the message that one is condoning Islam.
I don’t have a problem with a restaurant offering halal meat, kosher, and etc meat. I don’t understand why they are getting rid of the ham and bacon, which undoubtably the majority of their non-Muslim customers like. I guess subway wants to go out of business.
