No they don’t. If you think it is right and just to fine someone millions for expressing an opinion in a private conversation then you are on the side of the totalitarians.
I am sorry, no they didn’t.
There used to be something in this country called the rule of law.
Discrimination laws etc. to deal with bigots like this that hurt other people. Take it to court, but this reaction by the league is wrong.

Was sort of into these playoffs...turning it off for good now.
In order to assess a 2.5 million dollar fine, I believe that a court would have to rule that it was not excessive. Sounds excessive to me. The guy is a real creep, but the tape is not admissible in any court proceeding and any statement by the mistress as to what she heard would likewise be inadmissible as the statement was unlawfully taped.
If Mr. Sterling is interested in legal representation, I’m available at $2000 an hour. He can freep mail me to set up a paid consultation.
As will I. How can they ban the guy on the basis of illegal tapes and without due process?
Exactly!
Me too—since the Bob Cousy days. :-)
.
Lurking ESPN’s message boards. It’s amazing how many people there are applauding the NBA for stifling free expression.
I don’t condone what the man said. But at least, in theory, he still has the right to say it.
Phony outrage. They all knew. It was ok cause he was a wealthy democrat.
Robert ‘kkk’ Byrd is still a Democrat in good standing tho he used the N word..
I’m enjoying watching this hypocrisy. Grab a bag of popcorn and laugh.
What does this have to do with his housing units?
Haven’t watched an NBA ‘game’ since Michael Jordan retired.
Nothing but THUGS now...
Do any Negros own a basketball team? Whose going to take
over the team now, who is going to pay the million dollar
players?
Well, it might not be “right” but pursuant to a private contractual agreement they have the right. This is a business, not a government.
If he is being punished for earlier instanced, why act now? Actually discriminating is not a crime for the NBA, but speaking privately is.
This action is not appropriate for something that occurred privately, and taped illegally.
This is mob rule.
The NBA has a revenue sharing program. There are 29 other NBA teams. Because of the stupid comments and subsequent boycotts, it is devaluing the investments and costing the 29 other owners real money.
And you can bet his franchise agreement provides the ability of the NBA to monetarily penalize him.
The NBA has every right to protect their business interests.
But he is a registered Republican and has been for years and THAT is all that anyone will see.
Slippery Slope - NBA should not go there.
Thats kinda what I was thinking.
