Is Cliven Bundy a "Racist"? Where’s the PROOF?

Media leftists falsely attack rancher Cliven Bundy as a racist.

Is Cliven Bundy a “Racist”? Where’s the PROOF?

The New American
25 April 2014

Here we go again. You had to know it was coming. When the Left wants to distract America from the central point of a burning issue, they find (or manufacture) a “gotcha” moment and yell “RACISM!”

So it is no surprise that embattled Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, whose struggle against the federal government’s overreach has won widespread sympathy, has ended up as the latest victim of “race card” politics.

“But haven't you heard the TERRIBLE RACIST comments he made?” the critics scream. “It’s on video, in his own words; Cliven Bundy SUPORTS SLAVERY!”

Actually, yes, we’ve watched “the” video comments that have caused such a raging firestorm amongst the “progressive” mainstream-media commentariat, and that also have caused panic and consternation amongst Republicans, conservatives, and libertarians who have supported Cliven Bundy.

Many of these erstwhile supporters have been caught off-guard and frightened into denouncing Bundy as a “racist” and his remarks as “vicious” and “reprehensible.”

But it might be helpful to take a calm look at what he actually said and see if it really should be engendering so much angst and furor amongst the political and chattering classes. In the video below, from which the New York Times selected its excerpts to stir up the racism charge, Cliven Bundy makes some statements that are sympathetic to Blacks and Mexicans. He states:

I was in the Watts riots. I seen the beginning fire and I seen the last fire. What I seen was civil disturbance, people were not happy. People thinking they don’t have freedom, didn’t have these things — and they didn’t have them. We’ve progressed quite a bit from that day until now, and we sure don’t want to go back. We sure don’t want these colored people to go back to that point. We sure don’t want the Mexican people to go back to that point. And we can make a difference right now by taking care of some of these bureaucracies and do it in a peaceful way....

....

Much of what Mr. Bundy is saying closely parallels what even many black leaders, authors and intellectuals — such as Prof. Walter Williams, Rev. C.L. Bryant, Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, Bill Cosby, Alveda King, Star Parker, and Alan Keyes — have been saying. But Cliven Bundy’s “sin” is that he is an elderly white man who is unschooled in traversing the minefield of political correctness — and he was careless in failing to make important distinctions and clarifications. He “sinned” by being born when he was born, and failing to keep up with the constantly changing terminology for ethnic designations. He still uses the terms “Negro,” “colored people,” and “Mexican,” instead of “black/ African American” or “Hispanic/Latino” — but then, race activists still argue amongst themselves concerning the “proper” ethnic label to apply to their lineage and group identity.

Cliven was winning the PR battle. Whether he is racist or not is not important. What was not smart is to throw race into the conversation. It was totally unnecessary.

PR battle has nothing to do with this.

He's not running some popularity contest on PR contest. He commented on out of control federal govenrment who's got half those in all the big cities and elsewhere on a short leash, suckling on the government boob...At tax payer expense.

BTW, were talking at a cost of hundreds of *billions* annually keeping millions on the payroll while.

He just wasn't politically correct about it and didn't sugar coat it. He's just not a well polished big city mouth.

Yup. I have a black son in law and two black grandkids. I am quite familiar with the race thing. I don’t see color. I see people and their actions. And I see Bundy speak the same thing we say every time we say ‘Liberal plantation”.

I could not care less if people can’t get past their own hang ups on race. Truth is what it is. And I care not at all if anyone wants to call me a racist for it. I have been called much worse by much better people than they.

Didn’t care about that either. ;)

And that is one of the things I like about him, plus he doesn't have a *slickster* standing there to help him out or explaining what he really meant.

Me too...I still support his cause. But he should talk less.
I would like to see the Feds enforce immigration laws first.
And not worry about cattle grazing grass which renews itself often. It is all about Harry Reid wanting a solar plant there.

You overlook the reason conservatives fail in politics lately. What put everything in jeopardy was not the rant of some rancher but the cowardice in failing to stand up for principle, to throw him under the bus, and to let the Left play their game of gotcha to misdirect the issues.

When the Left determines how the game is played, the Right loses every time. Everyone who fled should have stood up and said, hey, the point is government abuse. Period.

The last election proved beyond argument that the right id filled with people who will run and hide when principle is needed. Right here were poster after poster openly saying principle did not matter and ‘purity’ was something evil/the cause of failure.

These people also said “You go to war with the army you have”. How then does said Army fight hiding behind the nearest rock? Hod does one fight without principle? What is the fight based on?

‘Winning’

And what did they win?

After losing the big chair, their unprincipled victors are now in DC calling for amnesty, screwing our vets out of benefits, trying to ignite WW3 and hiding behind rocks of their own every time Lord Barry speaks.

That’s what they won. And that’s why principle does and always will matter.

We could be careful with our words, but let’s assume this - they are going to try to nail us, one way or another. I’m not one for walking on eggshells to avoid incoming fire, personally. I’d just as soon break the PC rules, full speed ahead, than run defense to protect myself if and when they attack.

What if he did say something kind of stupid? Does that mean the Government SWAT team DOES get to take his cattle out, take his land for a tortoise-exchange? Just for back taxes? Really? I don’t remember STUPID being against the law. I don’t remember STUPID being a reason that you could lose your private property. I don’t remember STUPID meaning that you are not protected by the Constitution. God help us all!
