Republicans including possible 2016 candidate Rand Paul -- are scrambling to distance themselves from defiant Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy after he made startling comments about slavery and African-Americans in a New York Times article published Wednesday night.
From the Times Adam Nagourney:
I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro, he said. Mr. Bundy recalled driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch they didnt have nothing to do. They didnt have nothing for their kids to do. They didnt have nothing for their young girls to do.
And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do? he asked. They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And Ive often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didnt get no more freedom. They got less freedom.
Bundy had previously drawn support from some GOP lawmakers for his clash with the Bureau of Land Management.

In statements after Bundys remarks, both Paul and Heller condemned his comments.
"His remarks on race are offensive and I wholeheartedly disagree with him, said Paul.
And a spokesman for Heller told the Times that the senator completely disagrees with Mr. Bundys appalling and racist statements, and condemns them in the most strenuous way.

ouch
They may be. But he's free to express himself as he wishes.
I dunno’ they sound pretty honest and on target to me.
A lot better than anything that Royal Meeker guy said about the breed.
Not the most delicate way of putting it but I do understand what he’s saying and its not so much that he’s beating up on blacks as expressing pity for them.
The left is after Bundy.
Big time. It is disgusting what is happening.
Just saying.
Republicans are gutless wonders.
Leave it to the increasingly idiotic Paul to step in this .and take the bait - (the dude AINT that smart) - and let the media make this about Bundy, when it’s about the damned BLM and the Fed Gov over reach.
What a pathetic tool, a little man boy, with no situational awareness...
Uh, oh. Now, he’s “racist”, so the GOP will allow the BLM to kill him by kowtowing to the Dems in order to avoid being seen associated with a known “racist.”
Yeah, some how I get the feeling that Mr. Bundy is the type of old timer that couldn’t care less what anybody thinks about him....
"And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do? he asked. They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cottonwork and hold a job.
And Ive often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton with a steady job and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didnt get no more freedom. They got less freedom. ",/i>
Absolutely.
The Negro?
Seriously? Who talks like that today? He comes across as a racist...
I notice the Republicans never “scrambled” to condemn the BLM for their Gestapo tactics. I take from their silence that they approve.
Not young folks you would’ve used the word “nigga.” That is so much nicer, isn’t it?
I understand his point, and I've wondered the same thing. Government - especially the 'War on Poverty'- has destroyed the black family. But I would not have phrased it that way. No man is better off a slave.
When did he say this?
I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro, he said.
Think what you will about the situation...but no good will derive from anyone starting topic with that sentence. The media and the pol’s will just hear/read that...and won’t get beyond that sentence.
Mr. Bundy has a right to his opinion, but he needs to remember the ‘actual’ point of his fight w/ the Feds and the BLM.
WHO not you. Not young folks who wouldve used the word nigga. That is so much nicer, isnt it?
