An Ohio woman has recounted the moment an act of kindness in helping a perceived pair of broken-down strangers left her being dragged, beaten and robbed on the side of a road.
"Before I could finish asking him if they were OK he grabbed me by the hair and said, 'if you scream I'll hit you even harder,'" 19-year-old Caleigh Roelfs recalled to the Daily News Thursday.
It was 2 p.m. Monday along Napoleon's Route 6 when the engaged criminal psychology student spotted a van with its emergency lights flashing on the side of the road.
"My dad and brothers, even my mom, have always stopped. That's how I was raised," she said of her immediate impulse to help.
But within seconds of the van's passenger stepping out of his vehicle, she lost all control.
The man, she described as a 6-foot black male with a shaved head, face and spider web tattoo on his left hand, violently grabbed her while she was still seated in her car....

I don't care what color the perps were.
I'm a pretty big guy and I'd be VERY wary of this situation.
One time when I was young and stupid, a friend and I stopped to help two guys stranded on the side of the road.
It was dark, and they were out of gas.
We had a gas can and poured it into the tank and gave the carburetor a sip and they were on their way.
The driver thanked us and said, "you really helped us, my buddy has to get out of the state, fast."
Now, my friend was a huge guy and an ex-jailbird, but looking back, I think of just how many things could have gone wrong.
I'd never conceive of doing something like that today.
i can’t do this but if a person really looks in trouble i’d call 911 and tell them the mile markers. i have obligations to my family, my mom and wife and her mom in particular. and my now-old pets who totally depend on me to doctor them,’some several times a day.
Either she hasn’t been paying attention or she is getting the bleeding heart Liberal version of criminal psychology where criminal behavior is caused by an unjust society, poverty and social injustice.
One day in Seattle I was in a not busy industrial area when I saw parked on the side of the road a big older truck that a box behind the cab - the kind with a roll up door. The engine hood was up and a guy was standing by the the open back door of the truck holding battery cables and he waved them at me. I got out of there as fast as I could. I could have just seen myself being thrown into the back of that truck.
Come to think of it wonder why he was at the back of the truck next to that open door when if his battery was dead he would have needed to hook the cables to the engine at the front of the truck. Hmmm
Maybe it was nothing..but maybe not.
These guys are going to make it tougher for other black men when their cars breaks down. Soon, no one’s gonna want to stop and help black guys in trouble!
But anyway just because the article doesn't describe the other man doesn't mean that she didn't get a good look at him and tell the cops what he looks like.
She's lucky they didn't rape her.

I was raised around Napoleon and live in Toledo presently and I would bet that you are correct. Scene safety is the first thing you evaluate before rendering aid, even for professionals.

Some ‘men’ ay? Gotta be a low life POS to prey on a woman who is ‘helping’ them in kind while they steal and mug her over. How such dirty butt holes sleep at night is beyond me but karma will show up at the appropriate time.

I guess she found out that that educational farce didn’t prepare her for the real world did it?
Well I guess a few minutes with those guys qualified her to receive a PHD in criminal psychology didn’t it?
What a worthless profession.
