A New Jersey college professor says he was suspended for posting online a photo of his daughter wearing a "Game of Thrones" T-shirt with a "threatening" quote on it.
Francis Schmidt, an art and 3-D animation professor at Bergen Community College in northern New Jersey, told The Record he posted the picture of his 7-year-old daughter Jan. 12 wearing a T-shirt with the "Game of Thrones" quote, "I will take what is mine with fire and blood."...
...A day after posting the photo, Schmidt told The Record that he was questioned as to whether the photo was a threat against the dean. Despite his explanation, Schmidt said he was suspended without pay for eight days and ordered to see a psychiatrist before he would be allowed back on campus.
When Schmidt asked the officials why they thought the quote was threatening, one said, "'when you see the word fire, then someone shows up with an AK-47 here shooting everybody,'" he told the paper.
"I had no idea what to say to that," Schmidt added. "For God's sake, I'm a middle-aged art professor. I don't own any firearms."

Just a wild guess, but I’m thinking the collars and cuffs don’t match.
Its an excellent show for adults, but its chock full of nudity, orgies, and very graphic butchery.
and incest... so many wrongs...
With zero parenting skills (who would let a 7 year old watch that crap)
Not to mention a cowardly troglodyte ie "I don't own any firearms"
This thread makes me so not miss television.
That college administrator must be on drugs. (And if not, he/she needs to be.)
New Jersey Obama voters — all.
If the little girl had worn a shirt with the words “ my two mommies make love in the livingroom while I watch” no one would have said anything.
How did we Americans ever conquer the wilderness, settle the west, and win World Wars I and II????
Never watched one either but the world is filled with immorality. One can’t pretend it’s not so.
It does make me wonder, who lets a 7 year old watch that show. Its an excellent show for adults, but its chock full of nudity, orgies, and very graphic butchery.””
How do you know he let’s his daughter watch the show?
I don't know, but it seems likely if she has a t-shirt of the character it's because she's a fan. I suppose it's possible she just liked the shirt.
“It does make me wonder, who lets a 7 year old watch that show”
Where does it say she ever watched it?
But Schmidt, a tenured professor, believes it was retaliation for a grievance he filed after being denied a sabbatical about two months prior to the incident. The college is having union issues. This was payback because I filed a grievance, he said.
Schmidt told The Record he believes the suspension may have been retaliation for a previous grievance he filed with the college prior to the incident.
The school has also been embroiled in labor negotiations.
>>who would let a 7 year old watch that crap
I can’t find any statement at all that the kid watched the show - ever. Can you direct me to it?
Correct but she is quite lovely as a brunette as well.
Yes, indeed.
Maybe but he's not very smart. He just told every crook out there that he's an easy target.
Really? Who would even make the link from that t-shirt? This 'officials' response did 100 times more to plant that idea or link than any t-shirt.
Simple. We used to censure, ridicule and ostracize these types of nitwits when they had the temerity to open their mouths and spew their drivel. Some were committed, some were 'excised'.
