Heres something from the Did you know that? category. Did you know that abortions are apparently eligible for a tax deduction? That appears to be true, so says the IRS.irs
From the Washington Examiner, in a list of odd tax deductions:
Have an abortion, get a tax deduction! How strange that pro-abortion advocates arent using this as a selling point. Hmmm.
Oh, and while they hyperventilate over Hobby Lobby not wanting to provide every type of birth control without a co-pay, it turns out that birth control pills can be deducted if prescribed by a doctor.
Also, you can deduct the purchase of pregnancy test kits and vasectomies.
So what does the IRS say about deducting the cost of killing your child?
You can include in medical expenses the amount you pay for a legal abortion, it says.
So if the average abortion costs $500, its still significantly smaller than the average tax credit for a child. Choose life.
Abortion has been imposed on America by judges and not by the legislative branch which has never been allowed to have a straight up or down abortion approval law.
Given that, one would think the House would propose legislation removing abortion as an allowable deduction and would write into the law a rejection of judicial review.
If conservatives ever gain the presidency and fool proof majorities in House and Senate they should immediately make abortion illegal....or at least remove it as an allowable tax deduction.
Yet another indication of “The Sickness”which has taken over our country?
It takes a whole lot of medical expenses before any of them count towards the allowable medical deduction. Thanks Obamacare.
If someone goes on a killing spree, do they get to deduct the bullets?
If you want less of something, then tax it.
If you want more of something, ie abortion, then make it deductible.
excellent illustration, Logic.
So you can get a tax deduction for an abortion but the IRS does not yet have the forms for deducting state sales tax on your 1040...as I found out the other day when I was doing my tax penance on TurboTax. The program said the IRS has not yet decided policy about that item so the forms are not yet available. Doesn’t stop them from coming after you if you are a minute late filing taxes though, does it?
So now I suppose that if I want to make that admittedly small adjustment to my federal taxes I will have to file an amendment...if the forms ever become available. Needless to say, I’m not holding my breath!
” - - - Abortion has been imposed on America by judges - - - “
The same thing can be said of Obamacare being imposed on America by SC Judge John Roberts illegally legislating from the SC bench by changing the word “fine” to the word “Tax.”
Now it has come full circle and Judge Robert’s Obamacare “Tax” is imposing abortion on us too.
BTW, since paying the Obamacare TAX is mandatory for all, does that not mean that we have a mandatory obligation to pay for any and all abortions covered by Obamacare?
Seems like a really smart FReeper Lawyer could make a pretty good legal case against Obamacare about “Mandatory Loss of Freedom of Choice” for those of us who are forced to pay for something we oppose on religious, ethical and moral grounds.
the fear of those [OBAMA} NSA dossiers...seems to have gotten the better of our elected representatives
Do births, likewise, get a tax deduction?
Choose life.
Amen!
As a medical expense, births would get a deduction.
(US Government Approved)
Does the mother need to get a social security number for the murdered baby in order to list it as a dependent?
Will it be able to vote democrat upon reaching the date when it would have been 18 years old?
On a practical note, this is probably a non-issue.
Medical expenses are only deductible to the extent that they exceed 10% of adjusted gross income. Assume the person getting the abortion is a single woman earning $20,000/year, she can only deduct medical expenses to the extent that they exceed $2,000. If an abortion is her only medical expense, then she clearly won’t be allowed a deduction for the cost of an abortion.
Secondly, a person can deduct the greater of their itemized deductions or the standard deduction. For a single person, the standard deduction for 2013 was $6,100. Even if a woman’s medical expenses exceeded 10% of her adjusted gross income (and, remember, only that excess can be deducted), she will have to have other itemized deductions to push her over $6,100 in order to benefit from that limited medical expenses.
So, an interesting talking point, but, as a practical matter, mostly meaningless.
On the tax side, you are correct. It is probably not often that one reaches the level of medical expense that they become deductible.
However, the tax side is not the issue. Some do attain the level at which a deduction is allowed.
The issue is, as I pointed out in post #2, that Congress has never approved abortion as the law of the land. In fact, judges imposed their opinions on America and forced abortion upon us.
Because of that, many have understood, as with Planned Parenthood, that the US government should not require Americans to violate their conscience and pay for abortions. Planned Parenthood’s tax grants are supposedly for non-abortion services.
In this instance, however, the government clearly provides a financial benefit for those receiving and performing abortions. Americans who consider abortion abhorrent are forced to underwrite what they consider an abominable practice through cost reductions for those receiving them.
Most of the American people can’t deduct for abotions because they can’t meet the now 10 percent threshold of Line 33 for medical expenses to kick in.
It’s not a deduction for a newborn but an exemption.
