Because I spent so much time watching exactly that sort of boring thing in Germany in my misspent youth. My uncle and cousin were soccer coaches. I lived across the street from the local club sportplatz. B-O-R-I-N-G.
After half the match had gone by I was bored to tears. German TV was far more interesting.

I also played soccer a bit when I was a kid. Some of my earliest possessions had “FC Bayern Munchen” and “Beckenbauer” emblazoned on them. Then I grew up and did more adult things.

My translation of that (especially about ‘playing a bit’) is that you were not too good and carry a grudge. Just an opinion.
