I also played soccer a bit when I was a kid.....Then I grew up and did more adult things.

My translation of that (especially about ‘playing a bit’) is that you were not too good and carry a grudge. Just an opinion.
One last thing. This guy should be our striker. I was 20 rows away from this goal and told my niece who was with me that she just saw one of the greatest goals ever scored in soccer.

Well, I was good enough to be recruited for a club team before I left for Europe (i.e. they sought me out when I had no interest in playing). I had discovered girls. Much more interesting. I also enjoyed basketball more because it was so fast paced and intense while soccer was slow, dull, and there were far too many claims of “oh, I’m hurt”. The two things I wish I got involved with when I was young are Australian Rules Football http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlG3qqtWNy8 and pistol shooting competitions. Make that four things - Gaelic Football: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEAbWrdB9XU and Hurling: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmzivRetelE
Oh, I also had a brief karate and Tae Kwon Do (and (Jung Sim Do) interlude in my youth. Sometimes I miss that most.
