U.S. President Barack Obama told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday that Russia's actions in Ukraine were not conducive to a diplomatic solution of the crisis in that country, and the White House warned that Moscow would suffer further costs for its behavior.
Obama spoke to Putin at the Russians' request, a senior administration official said, describing the call as "frank and direct," a diplomatic construction that usually means tense.
"The president made clear that the diplomatic path was open and our preferred way ahead, but that Russia's actions are neither consistent with or conducive to that," the official said.
Obama told Putin that Kiev had made "real offers" to address concerns about the decentralization of powers to local governments in the country.
"That is a matter for Ukrainians to decide," the official said. "We have always and will continue to support an inclusive process."
Earlier, U.S. officials stopped short of announcing a new set of sanctions against Russia but said they were in consultations with European partners about the prospect.

If he was even half a leader the least he could do is supply the Ukranians with some upgraded weapons and technology....

I’m sure that Putin is shaking in his boots after being threatened by Obama. Shaking with laughter, that.
Putin’s reply to Obie was to play, very loudly, Judy Collin’s song “Send in the Clowns”, “Everybody Plays the Fool, Some Time” (Main Ingredients?), James Darren’s song about a clown, the Everly Brothers “Kathy’s Clown”, and somebody’s “The Clown Cried”.
He then put up a picture of Obama dressed as BOZO the Clown on a billboard in Moscow Square, right next to Lubianka Prison (These KGB guys have notice touches to their humor, don’t they?).

As I recall, White House press releases regarding phone conversations between the Messiah and other World Leaders often tell a different tale about who said what to who than do the press releases issued by the other World Leaders.
I wonder how the Kremlin's press release will describe this conversation. I wonder which one will be the more accurate...
