International efforts to combat global warming are so broken that it's come to this: hoovering massive amounts of carbon dioxide out of the sky.
A body of scientists convened under the auspices of the United Nations is giving more weight to the idea that vacuuming vast stores of CO2 from the skies and burying it in the ground may be necessary to limit the temperature rise to the internationally agreed safe level of 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit above pre-industrial levels. The plan's not quite like a giant thermostat for the whole globe, but the metaphor's not completely off either.

You're right. Also, if conservatives thought this was a real issue - which we don't - we would also suggest planting more trees in mall parking lots etc as a way of stopping the creation of weird heat sink micro climates around large cities.

If the world heats up, more sea water is absorbed into the atmosphere and that means clouds and rain and that blocks the sun and cools the environment and the earth.
It is a balanced system and almost impossible to create imbalance except for political expediency.;-)

In commercial greenhouses C02 machines are used to accelerate growth in young plants. As the plants mature the C02 production is cut back because they don't consume and process as much.
Forests work the same way. Young trees planted after a timber harvest are active and eat air like teenagers eat pizza.
SOOOO - ain't it funny that the liberal nutballs that want to kill the timber industry are worried about C02?
Well hey - these are the same folks that rant and rant about clean and renewal energy and lobby congress to tear out hydroelectric dams.
