I’d suggest that you may be more right than you know. The KKK was conceived by Democrats as a vehicle for suppressing voting by newly freed former Negro slaves, because they were too much inclined to vote for Republicans. After all, Father Abraham, whom they likely thought their Liberator, was Republican.
