The hunt is on today for a black bear who mauled a woman at her home in an upscale central Florida neighborhood, leaving her with injuries to her face, legs and torso and requiring her to get 40 stitches to the head.
Terri Frana of Lake Mary, Fla., went to her garage Saturday evening to grab bicycles for her children to ride down to their neighbor's house when the attack happened, according to her husband, Frank Frana.
As soon as the children left, Frana, 45, saw two bears in the driveway. She walked to the patio area where there were five bears eating trash that they had pulled out of the garage, her husband said.
"The bear got up on [its] hind legs and started to maul her, opened its jaws and put her head in the mouth and dragged her towards the woods," Frank Frana said. "Somehow she was able to pull herself out."
"The bears were various sizes so we think it's probably cubs of different maturity and perhaps a mama bear," the Seminole County Sheriff's Office told ABC News.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said there was at least one bear involved in the attack but couldn't corroborate the report that there had been five bears.
Frana managed to get inside the house, said her husband. Her son found her collapsed in the living room and called 911. She was then taken to a local hospital where she was treated for at least three bear bites and several cuts all over her body.
Frana was released from the hospital Sunday morning and is recovering at home, her husband said.

Oh yeah. The black bear here in Florida goes about 200lbs and if it stands up on its hind legs will go between 5 & 6 feet tall.
I have had them cross the road as I have been driving by.
They by-and-large hug the woods around the populated areas.
These bears must have been really hungry.
Bears, gators and democrats are our biggest problems here in Florida.
Lots of bears in the Panhandle. My dad hit one. Fortunately, he was driving a Crown Vic, so the bear lost.
We seem them frequently when driving the “Forgotten Coast Highway” 319/98.
They better verify that. If they are not registered in Florida, someone in their name will be.
A wizard of OZ quote I couldn't resist.
——Didn’t know there were bears in Florida-—
As I recall the reaalestate selling in Florida was a bear market
Between Roscommon and Grayling.
Almost forgot that he was also the Tholian in Star Trek TOS.
Boyne City here.........
Yeah, whenever I see bears in the driveway, I always wander around the house looking for more and interrupting their mealtime instead of getting into the house and calling Fish and Wildlife. Somehow, I don’t think the family’s account is truthful. She went to the garage to get the bikes and the kids came out, probably loud like kids are, and they rode off down the driveway. Where were the bears when the kids were out there? Did they magically appear, poof!, the instant the kids rode off? She didn’t see the trash all over the garage? Sounds like she was intentionally bothering them.
It took me a minute...thanks. I’m still laughing!!!
that is a big bear hug
The bear that crossed my path was no more than a mile or so from a major thoroughfare here in Tallahassee.
Jeez! I grew up in Fla and finding a bear was like finding Bigfoot. What happened.
Back when I was a kid there were bears all over Yellowstone. But not anymore. I wondered where they went.
Earlier this year the town next door to Lake Mary, Longwood, was in news because of the first ever bear attack in Florida. I believe that old lady lives in Longwood.
This whole area backs up against state forest. Lots of bears.
With this winter, they probably all moved to Florida...
We hunted grizzly bears in British Columbia Canada. Our guide was a Indian who’s wife had been mauled by a grizzly. The bear covered her up with sticks, dirt and rocks and left her, probably to come back and eat her later.
The woman wasn’t dead, she waited for the bear to leave and she managed to get back to town. Her wounds were severe and it took several years before they were completely healed, according to our guide, her husband.
I am glad I don’t live in bear country.
