LAS VEGAS (AP) Images of a forced cattle roundup on a rural Nevada range sent ripples through the West on Friday, prompting elected officials in several states to weigh in, militia members to mobilize and federal land managers to reshape elements of the operation.
Bureau of Land Management officials dismantled designated protest areas Thursday and Nevadas governor urged calm as the fight over rancher Cliven Bundys cattle widened into a debate about states rights and federal land-use policy.
The dispute that triggered the roundup dates to 1993, when the BLM cited concern for the federally protected tortoise. The agency later revoked Bundys grazing rights.
Bundy claims ancestral rights to graze his cattle on lands his Mormon family settled in the 19th century. He stopped paying grazing fees and disregarded several court orders to remove his animals.

Common folk: Die while standing.
Well, darn that’s the case in EVERY blue state except Rhode Island, Massascrewits and Vermont. Red rural areas are 90% of the land, politically dominated by blue city states. Example—
Illinois - Chicago
Michigan - Detroit
Wisconsin - Madison
Virginia - DC’s satellite suburbs
In presidential elections, these states along with Nevada all go blue because the decent folks like those who went to aid the Bundy family are outmanned and outspent.
“I am told by a FRiend I shall not name that the term is Gear Queers. :-)”
Another term is Geardo (rhymes with weirdo).
Heck, the rules of engagement are probably tighter against Islamic terrorists in the ME.
I saw nothing about this on MSN and on ABC (’already been chewed’ news) they tried to paint it as ‘Vigilante Cranks On Parade.’
Of course, Cindy Shehag and her screwball retinue were saints keeping vigil at George Bush’s ranch. Obama’s Ministry of Truth.
Yep, that’s the problem. They usually try to isolate the target (American law-abiding citizen, never an illegal alien or terrorist) and do their dirty work under the radar, so that the person feels alone and helpless against the might of Fedzilla. This guy was fortunate that his story went “viral”, and that he had other people nearby willing to respond and stand with him. Like Franklin said (I have the utmost respect for our founders’ prescience and understanding of human nature), “Gentlemen, we must stand together or we will hang separately”. That is the foundation of standing against tyranny-not being isolated from your fellow citizens.
Gotta believe the reception for these feds was less than enthusiastic
.
least I hope so.
Sorry, we don’t serve your kind around here.
Soooo, F- off

I recall local (Sacramento) talk shows getting calls from federal employees of BLM, Bureau of Reclamation, and others working in regional offices in Sacramento that included that part of Oregon.
They all sided with the farmers. IIRC.
Seems to me that civilian employees should borrow from the military and follow LAWFUL orders not the psycho whims of aged 1960s New Left Marxist-Alinsky campus radical, psycho spoiled brat, environmental nut cases (and their ideological issue). For VP Gore add corrupt dingbat.
If my recollection serves me correctly, the First Amendment says nothing about 'designated protest areas', particularly on public land.
Gore was not VP in 2001 (except for early January) of course but for those who do not know the misery heaped upon the farmers started earlier.
IIRC there was at least one suicide owing to the financial ruin that some suffered -- largely due to the timing of denying water AFTER farmers had financial commitments for the new season. Gore and pukes destroyed them.
This shows why the DHS, the TSA, the IRS, even the BLM wanted all those billions of rounds of hollow-point ammo, and those multiple thousands of “personnel defense weapons” [what media commonly calls Assault Rifles].
The only thing missing here are those MRAPS, I guess they’re still in the paint ship being re-colored to that peaceful black color.
Great pix !
It's time to auction it all off. Fed Gov now has their hands full with their new health care hobby. Real estate is not their core competency. Government hirelings are overwhelmingly city slickers and know nothing about that blur they call fly over country.
I’m surprised that idea hasn’t caught on yet.
Grace was right, just in the wrong way
Sometimes I think the “T” in P.T. Barnum stood for tactical... some folks will buy anything they think is high speed low drag.
Don’t let the statewide voting fool you. The libs in most states, including California, are corralled in the cities. If votes were counted based on the amount of land owned, this country would be 99% conservative.
I thought moving to California was going to put me at odds with everyone. Only when I go to the bigger cities do I hear Obama’s praises.
