U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell now has an endorsement to go with his gun.
The National Rifle Association's political action committee announced Friday it has endorsed McConnell in the May 20 Republican primary. McConnell made headlines last month when he appeared at the Conservative Political Action Conference waving a rifle over his head. The rifle was a lifetime achievement award McConnell presented to U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma.
In a news release, NRA Political Victory Fund chairman Chris Cox called McConnell a true champion of the Second Amendment.
Likely Democratic nominee Alison Lundergan Grimes mocked McConnell, saying he was holding the gun wrong and tweeted: "KY women do it better."
The Gun Owners of America has endorsed McConnell's GOP primary challenger Matt....
Disappointing.
yet another reason to not support the NRA
Hmmm, I wonder what happened to all the freepers who viciously attacked me about a year ago during the “I stand with the NRA” thread when I said the NRA is way too Washington status quo and there are better gun right organizations for conservatives to “stand with”?

::crickets chirp::
Yep, happened to me about a year ago when some NRA cheerleader here started an "I stand with the NRA!" pep rally thread after they had endorsed that phony "conservative" scumbag Demcrat Joe Manchin. (see post #63 for a link to the original thread) Pinging the NRA fanboys to see if they're proud of their NRA membership.
I've actually defended the NRA in the past when they get attacked for endorsing someone who is solidly pro-gun but otherwise socialist (noting that they are a single issue organization and you can't expect the NRA to fight for tax cuts anyone than you could expect the Chamber of Commerce to campaign for pro-life candidates). However, there are plenty of times where the NRA defeats their own purpose by endorsing some phony "pro-gun" Democrat over a Republican challenger who is EQUALLY or even MORE pro-gun.
Bevin is desultory opposition, a suspected Paulbot with no qualifications who never had a chance to beat McConnell, not even before this cockfighting stuff. So I can’t quibble with the NRA here. They do suck though.
That being said, for me it's another example where the NRA doesn't even live up to its single issue mission of supporting the most pro-gun candidate. Bevin is obviously more conservative than McConnell on gun rights, regardless of how much he sucks as a candidate.
Bottom line: If their issue is gun rights, they should endorse the most gun friendly candidate in the primary, regardless of that person's chances. Save the strategic stuff of supporting the "less bad" candidate for the general election (and in that case, they also fail to live up to their mission statement, and frequently endorse ANY incumbent who claims to be "pro-gun" over viable challengers with proven pro-gun records)
The NRA rump swabs can pick their a**es; the NRA sucks, period.
GOA is the real deal; they DO NOT endorse RINOs (McConnell) or RATs (Reid). I’m a former NRA member (and my father was too) who told them to FOAD and quit when they endorsed Harry Reid’s reelection.
Me (and a bunch of my fellow Yankee RINOs) joined GOA; they are good people doing good work.
The NRA went (Washington DC) native and can’t be trusted.
You’re no Charlton Heston, dipstick!!!
I thought Chris Cox was a little more politically savvy than the average NRA executive...
Well, stupid is as stupid does...
“Yep, happened to me about a year ago when some NRA cheerleader here started an “I stand with the NRA!” pep rally thread”
We had one better a year ago too but it wasn’t a”pep rally” for these disillusioned freepers. Almost everyone jumped on these “I’m a lifetime NRA member” garbage unitl some freeper (I forgot the name) came up with the entire list of senators and congressmen they endorsed and they were MOSTLY the far worst left politicians we hate daily on FR.
That same NRA lifetime member then TOLD JIM ROBINSON (I kid you not) that we were picking on him. It was unbelievable..
Pure hypocrisy. That’s all it is.
FUNRA!
It is clear who's team you are on. "We The People" it is not.
