Militias head to Nevada rancher’s standoff with feds: We’re not ‘afraid to shoot’
Washington Times ^ | April 11, 2014

Posted on 04/11/2014 11:23:53 AM PDT by Jim Robinson

Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy’s decades-long battle against the federal government over grazing rights has heated to the point where militia groups have joined in and taken up spots against the feds who’ve circled his land — and talk is, they’re not afraid to open fire.

A spokesman for the one of the militia groups said as much to local 8 News Now: I’m not “afraid to shoot,” he said.

Margaret Houston, Mr. Bundy’s sister and a cancer survivor, said at a town hall gathering this week that the situation “was like a war zone” and that she felt “like I was not in the United States,” The Daily Mail reported. The Las Vegas Review-Journal described it this way: “Serious bloodshed was narrowly avoided,” in a story about how dogs were unleashed on a woman who was pregnant while the rancher’s son was hit with a taser.

On Tuesday, armed Bureau of Land Management agents stormed Mr. Bundy’s property, escalating a court dispute that’s wound for two decades over the rancher’s refusal to pay for grazing fees.

~~snip~~

Now militia groups are on the scene, promising to help the Bundys keep up the fight.

“This is what we do, we provide armed response,” Jim Lordy, with Operation Mutual Aid, told the local broadcast station. “They have guns. We need guns to protect ourselves from the tyrannical government.”

Mr. Lordy also said “many more” militia groups are coming to the site to join in the Bundy family defense.

Has anyone interviewed any of these 50 to have their opinions on the record?

Always good to see you in and out of the UT, n-t-i. Those interviews would be interesting. Were I a betting man, I'd look at the BLM, but I'd also consider that this is Clark County, and Las Vegas was the second-fastest growing metropolitan area in the U.S. during the 2000s.

Sometimes a real estate developer's money is enticing.

Article IV, § 3, Clause 2,
“The Congress shall have Power to dispose of and make all needful Rules and Regulations respecting the Territory or other Property belonging to the United States”.

Question: does this mean that state-lands are federal?*
Moreover, just because the federal government claims property does not mean that claim is valid — look at how they have been trying to claim even non-navigable waterways as federal property.

* When a Territory becomes a State, does the ownership of the lands go to the State, or not? If it dies not, then how can that State be sovereign? and if a State is not sovereign, how can it in any way be equal to those states which are?

Thats a good point I have old vets at my church who shoot 500 yrds all the time. One guy hands me his M1 and tells me to level the sight put it at the bottom of the ten inch fry pan and “ping” it hits it every time. (I’m using a rest)
He nails it just about every, time standing.

I’m not discounting the militia members skills, but I fear for them because of the Feds numbers.

In the meantime I looking for something in .308 with a utilitarian intent myself.

“The most complete data is from the Beaver Dam Mountains. Woodbury and Hardy reported a tortoise population density of 150 per square mile in 1948. BLM reduced cattle grazing a few years later and eliminated cattle in 1970. Coombs reported a tortoise density of 39 per square mile in 1974. In these 26 years cattle use was reduced 100 percent and tortoise numbers were reduced 74 percent.

“These tortoises were doing so poorly a veterinarian, Dr. Jarchow, was consulted. He reported all six specimens were suffering from osteoporosis caused by a protein deficiency in their diet. Dr. Jarchow examined five specimens from the same mountains that shared their range with cattle. He reported these specimens were all healthy and well nourished.

“The historical record proves conclusively that tortoise thrive when cattle are on the range with them and without cattle grazing they are always malnourished and unhealthy and their numbers plummet.

There’s more to this than that Sir. I read the other day he was trying to pay and they refused to take it.

I think Harry Reid is in bed with the Chinese and this is a blatant federal land grab.

I could be wrong, I’m just repeating what I’ve read.

I’m not going to hold what he says in a passionate speech too literal. I say I’m not Canadian all the time, I’m Albertan, because I’ve lost any faith in the government and I don’t want anything to do with them.

>>....(recall hearing that the BATFE and FBI have sent agents and SWAT teams to take control of the situation from the BLM)....

If that is the case this will not end well for the ranchers. Wouldn’t Obama have to be informed and ok this as well?<<

Thank You Scoutmaster for the reply. I agree that money is always an enticement and was probably money in many of these instances for the 50. I guess I’m just the curious sort and always ask questions. Nine lives are only a maybe for being curious, I suppose.

More info coming out now, Mr Rogers, about Harry Reid, a multi-billion dollar solar deal with the Chinese, about tortoises being killed by the government, and about Bundy being in the way of all that graft.

*UPDATE: Those who say Bundy is a “deadbeat” are making inaccurate claims.

Bundy has in fact paid fees to Clark County, Nevada in an arrangement pre-dating the BLM.

The BLM arrived much later, changed the details of the setup without consulting with Bundy — or any other rancher — and then began systematically driving out cattle and ranchers. Bundy refused to pay BLM, especially after they demanded he reduce his heard’s head count down to a level that would not sustain his ranch.

Bundy OWNS the water and forage rights to this land. He paid for these rights. He built fences, established water ways, and constructed roads with his own money, with the approval of Nevada and BLM.

When BLM started using his fees to run him off the land and harassing him, he ceased paying. So should BLM reimburse him for managing the land and for the confiscation of his water and forage rights? Cliven Bundy’s problem isn’t that he didn’t pay — he did — or that his cattle bother tortoises — they don’t — it’s that he’s not a Reid donor. - See more at: http://danaloeschradio.com/the-real-story-of-the-bundy-ranch/#sthash.snaYAg5L.dpuf

A few hundred head of cattle aren’t going to destroy a desert environment. Stupid argument.

Since these cattle have been roaming over unfenced lands for many years, the Desert tortoise has multiplied and the grasses still grow, there is no argument here.

It’s a BLM attempt to pull a Benghazi Video claim to cover up their stupidity and thuggistness.

The rancher has issues about who he has to pay grazing fees to, and he has paid the state who (if news reports are correct),actually own some or all of the land. BLM is a “ land management agency”, not a land owning agency (That would be the Dept. of Interior of which they are a part).

Under Obama, DOI/BLM,US Forest Service and Fish & Wildlife, have become more like “Good Germans” than stewards of America’s natural resources. Remember the “Monuments” closing of early this year. No reason for it. All based on lies but the head of the USFS is known among his own men as an Obama bastard.

Park Rangers were made into Obama’s “Good Germans” and many hated it. They were used and abused, but used as shields to protect Obama and his marxist nutcases from the peoples’ wrath.

The Arizona water line case is just another example of the US govt gone wild, and stupid, at the same time, but I’m being redundant. Same for the Snail Darter Fish and San Jaoquin Valley water issues.

The government of Obama doesn’t give a damn about land rights, water rights, small businesses, large businesses, property rights, or any other “Right” in the Constitution.

In fact, Obama doesn’t even recognize the “old white guys” Constitution, and has said so in couched words. Holder obviously doesn’t care about the Constitution - IRS scandal, NSA, Fast & Furious, congressional subpoenas and court orders ignored, selected prosecution of white and not of criminal blacks (New Black Panther Party), and his threat to Rep. Gomer (R-TX) of “Don’t you go there, buddy...”

I wonder what the “or else” would mean? Car accident, IRS audit, an Al THe Rat Sharpton mob at his home, A Soros-funded attack on him with false allegations of many types, etc.

Holder is an Ogletree/Cone black reparationist who doesn’t care about “white people” unless they are his asskissing toadies.

If you know this man’s background, and that of Comrade Obama, you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Obama is just waiting for some kind of violent incident to implement national gun registration and seizures, to impose martial law in certain conservative states, and to set his Saul Alinksy mobs on the warpath (with Sharpton leading the way, aided and abetted by Rev. Jesse “the adulterer” Jackson bring up his rear).

We are under a nationally coordinated Obama/Marxist Minions and Alinsky legionnaires who are attacking every institution, cultural icon, religious belief, and work ethic that made America great.

After all, what would you expect from the Marxist in Chief, his Van Jones, Valerie Jarretts, David Axelrods, Anita Dunns, and the other lunatics he has put into positions of power?

Kathleen Sebelius - the Clueless daughter of Dr. Mengele?
Janet Napolitano - Even more clueless and incompetent that Sebelius if that is humanly possible
John Kerry - a traitor
Gen. Dempsey - a coward
Secy of Navy - feminist pansy
Vilsack, Dept. of Agriculture - totally useless
Harry Reid - the biggest crook in Congress, along with Nancy the Insane Blithering Idiot Pelosi.
Dick Durbin - your soldier sons are like Nazis (tell that to my Iraq combat veteran son you stinking shitpile)
Holdren and Holden - more “spaced out” than working on space issues
Lois Lerner - The fool on the Hill, and liar par excellance
Those who faked the Benghazi Video hoax - Morrell, Rice, Clinton, Obama, etc.

I think you get the picture. Obama has declared war on a Constitutional, free enterprise America and he is not going to back down unless Americans of all types stand up to his Hugo Chavez-style communist assault.

Remember that line from “Oklahoma” -
“We belong to the land, and the land we belong to us grand”.

Not, “The land belongs to Obama and his stooges”.

There is a difference.

Darnit! This is not a surprise to Bundy. Did he just recently attempt to pay fees to the county and get rejected? Or did he attempt to pay fees and get rejected over and over for years? I doubt Levin even has all the facts yet.

The new revelation that Reid and cronies may be involved would be a game changer. But those here that leaped to this conclusion without fact are no better than the global warming proponents leaping to the conclusion that man is the primary contributor to this purported AGW.

No, actually, Bundy needs to erect the fence. It’s his cattle roaming on land to which he has no rights.

No, actually land owners have to "fence out" free range cattle if they don't want them on their property.

Gotta love folks who post know-it-all posts and don't know what they are talking about.

Here’s an excellent historical source about grazing fees in the early 90’s.

There was a great deal of kerfluffle between the envirals and ranching interests when Clinton appointees Bruce Babbit and Jim Baca started proposing grazing reforms, pretty much renewing the Sagebrush Rebellion.

1993 seems to have seen a doubling of the fees, which may have been one of the reasons Bundy decided to quit paying

You can search High Country News archives on grazing reform back then. https://www.hcn.org/@@search?b_start:int=10&SearchableText=grazing%20reform
