With a single phrase of compassion for immigrants in the U.S. illegally, Jeb Bush has prompted questions about his viability as a potential presidential contender and underscored how divisive the immigration issue remains for the Republican Party.
The former Florida governor sparked a conservative furor this week when he described illegal immigration in an interview as an act of love by people trying to provide for their families.
Backing Bush are some of the GOPs most powerful insiders and financiers, who are hoping the party can woo Hispanic voters and rebound from Mitt Romneys damaging self-deportation rhetoric in 2012.
The worst thing that can happen to a political party is not for voters to decide they dont like you, said Alex Castellanos, a GOP consultant and former Romney adviser. Its for voters to decide you dont like them. And thats where the Republican Party is right now.
Other GOP lawmakers and conservative activists, however, are cringing over Bushs remarks, which triggered vocal opposition and concerns about amnesty.

Mark Levin had a guest on last night’s show who gets it. He says it’s not us against the Dims...it’s us against “THEM”. He has a new book out that I’m going to get...
Here’s the description....
Time is running out on American exceptionalism. The light of liberty is flickering. At no point since we still had the Redcoats on our shores has freedom been more imperiled. This time it’s not an invading foreign power that threatens us, but our own government gone wild unhinged from its Constitutional limits. Many great books have been written about what we should believe and why, or why the Left’s beliefs are flawed, but never before has a book been written that shows how to do what we believe. Until now. The Left has its playbook, Saul Alinsky’s infamous Rules for Radicals. Now the good guys have theirs. Endorsed by a who’s who of the conservative movement, we present Rules for Patriots.
- Ban & confiscate guns: GOOD!
- Enforce immigration laws: BAD!
- Bracelets for gun owners: GOOD!
- Voter ID: BAD!
- Occupy Wall Street trespassing: GOOD!
- Bundy cattle grazing on BLM land: BAD!
“We’ll put a boot up your ass, it is the American way.”
Not an ounce of compassion for Americans, not even a particle.
They never talk about the crime either, many Americans have been hurt by illegals and they don’t give a dam.
If Jeb Bush wants to put these people up in his own home - and receive their ‘appreciation, praise and flattery’ he's more than welcome to do that. But he doesn't have the right to give away my country for his self gratification. Either does O’Reilly at Fox.
It's bad enough we've got puffed up liberal elites like Biden who personally feel they keep all blacks out of chains, but we don't need this with conservatives prancing around like they're liberal elite pretentious fools. The job of the people we elect is to protect us and our country. It's not to establish themselves as messiahs in their own minds..
If this is his platform, he can stop worrying.
Geez, and I thought I was getting sick of hearing about Christie
.
LOL! Me Too!
Is that what it was? I have compassion for immigrants too.
Or was this a "single phrase of complete disregard for the law and fairness, and an expression of contempt for working class American citizens who are threatened by illegals swamping the job market"? As opposed to politicians from wealthy families who don't have to fight for jobs and would be rich whether or not they worked a day in their lives.
An absolute fact. And it's why the mantra of legalization, but no citizenship, is such a fallacy.
Shadows? What shadows? They brazenly protest in the streets. They give interviews to the media, including their names and photos. They practically BEG to be deported, and still aren’t!
I’ll tell you who’s in the “shadows.” People whose neighborhoods have been invaded. I saw my own neighborhood transform, as more and more apartments were changed to security buildings, more and more homes adding bars on the doors and windows. Take a stroll at night? We wouldn’t dare. We huddle inside.
Screw you, Jeb, in whatever nice, safe gated community you live in.
My “act of love” is send them home, all of them, and save American jobs, cities and lives.
Jeb also said that we shouldn’t focus on repealing Obamacare...
Shadows? What shadows?
Down at the local soccer field, laundromat, tiling roofs, landscaping and so on, yes, and best buy, picking up a large plasma screen TV with their SUV.
The Bush Family motto:
“When you are in a hole, get a bigger shovel and keep digging.”
It doesn’t help but you feel so much better after.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Jeb Bush pulled a Charlie Crist in the not too distant future.
He and other members of his clan should by all rights be Democrats. Better still, if they have such a strong affinity for Mexican illegals, perhaps Bush would be better off running for El Presidente under the PRI ticket in Mexico.
So, Jeb, it's an American value for people to break our laws coming to the U.S., and then for this government to give these lawbreakers blanket immunity for having broke those laws???<
I really hate people who claim to be conservative and claim to believe in the U.S. Constitution, but are purely self-serving sycophants.
I think “La Cucaracha” should be Jeb’s theme song going forward — appropriate too since they prefer to stay in the “shadows” ...
Interestingly, don’t know if these are US Citizens or not, but two stories yesterday had the Latin Kings in it. I could not find the story here posted under Florida but it certainly was posted. The other story is from New Jersey.
