Today, U.S. Congressman Blake Farenthold (TX-27) attended a House Judiciary Committee oversight hearing on the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). Attorney General Eric Holder was the sole witness. Today marked the seventh time General Holder has testified before the Judiciary Committee since his confirmation in 2009.
Congressman Farenthold did not question Holder during the hearing because he felt that, since the Attorney General has been held in contempt of Congress, it was not appropriate for him to appear before Congress as if nothing was wrong. Instead, Congressman Farenthold made the following remarks during his designated questioning round in todays hearing:
Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
You know, I understand that this Committee has the constitutional duty of oversight over the Department of Justice and that's why we have Mr. Holder here today but I don't think I can be a part of eroding the constitutional balance of power, favoring the executive over the legislative.
I don't think Mr. Holder should be here. He's in contempt of this body. I've called for his resignation, I've sponsored articles of impeachment and, this week, I'm going to be introducing legislation that would prevent federal employees who are held in contempt of Congress or who fail to fully comply with a Congressional subpoena from being paid their taxpayer-funded salary. I'm going to try and get that [the legislation] included with the appropriations bills thatll be going through.
Im committed to maintaining the constitutional balance of power and the authority this branch this Legislative Branch has, and I just dont think its appropriate [that] Mr. Holder be here. If an American citizen had not complied with one of the Justice Department subpoenas, they would be in jail not sitting here testifying.
But I realize there are questions to be asked, and Ill yield the remainder of my time to Mr. Gowdy.
You’ve got one guy telling it the way it is and you’re worried about how cute he is? I sure hope you’re female.
Wow we have some pitbulls in the House!
Eeep.
So:
1) the House committee would have to vote to charge Holder.
2) the full house would have to debate and vote on it
3) Holder’s own department would have to bring the charges before a grand jury
3a) the members of the grand jury would be selected by Holder’s department
4) the grand jury would have to return an indictment
5) Holder’s department would then have to try the case
6) in the extremely unlikely event that 1-5 happen, and the even more unlikely event that Holder is convicted (given total NSA files on each jury member and their loved ones), the occupier of the White House can instantly give him a full unconditional pardon.
Did I miss anything?
All that Holder has to do is to apologize and take full responsibility for his action and all is forgiven and forgotten.
Is that not how the game is played in American politics?
God bless Texas.
No Nully; You never miss a thing. Once more my apology for stepping in.
Not at all! You provided much more information and far better answers that I could have hoped to.
We really are screwed, aren’t we?
*sigh* I was afraid of that...
I hope Gowdy proceeded to kick Holder around the room as Gohmert did yesterday!
This administration has total contempt for the American people and has placed itself above the law.
two sets of laws ... yep, big trouble.
Thank You for that compliment Nully but am undeserving of your typing that. I Love Teamwork! And a Great Team Player You Are! I truly hope to down a cold one with you one day. It would be an Honor, Nully!
There were no consequences from that?

Will be pretty damn difficult to maintain that position with a small percentage who are mostly concerned with “whatchu given me nexx” and claim to fame is bassetball and holdin dare 9mm sideways, when across the road here comes 150 million armed to the teeth PO’d rednecks.

Good for Congressman Blake Farenthold - it's about time...
With total disregard for flaming, part of why we are here is directly related to “suffrage”.
Someone has a pair!
It’s really because the so-called ‘conservative’ House has no guts at all.
The conservatives lost The House in a very well organized coup back in 1996 and was completed in 1997. Read about this man and the names associated with him. Any names anyone recognizes as enablers to the Democrats? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Paxon The GOP as a Conservative Party is dead. It’ died 18 years ago before the 1996 elections.
