Add to this the coming shortage of pork and pork products, due to a virus not previously extant in this country, that kills baby piglets, thus decreasing the availability of those sides of pork six months to a year from now.
As of now, there is very little the pork producers can do to contain or stop this virus infection. Even as prolific as swine are, the births cannot keep up with the devastating loss in numbers until this virus is controlled in some way.
There is a way out.
Soylent Green.
The American standard of living continues to decline.
And the package size drops as well.
“And it isn’t just beef - all food items have gone up and keep going up. Of course, there is no inflation.”
That’s right. It was frightening that unemployment and inflation didn’t cost Obama the 2012 election; these were things that effect everyone (including welfare queens), and he won anyway.
It is now almost as cheap to eat out every meal than buy food, cook and clean up afterwards. I can go out to eat every meal and spend less than $25/day. If I go to the store every week I spend almost that same amount.
All I can afford is cube steak, and it’s gone up.
Prices going up on every item in the supermarket, while the amount purchased shrinks .just like it was when Jimmah Carter was in office. Some of us were cursed to have seen two really lousy Democrat presidents ruin the economy.
Beef prices have been ridiculously high for the las couple of years, they’re going to have to drop sometime.
and keep in mind that gas is still hovering around 4.00 a gallon.then again, look at what party is running the country.
LACK of Global Warming is the culprit? I did not see ethanol production mentioned. Burn animal food in our cars and the price of beef goes up! Wow, who da thunk! I'm sure compliance with ever increasing EPA regulations is a factor also.
Lots of reasons for increased beef prices including several years of drought in cattle country, a winter storm that decimated beef herds in the Dakotas and the ethanol boondoggle that diverts 40% of our corn crop to making motor fuel that could have gone to beef production. However, with high prices beef producers will increase their herds leading eventually to lower beef prices.
Chicken is still the cheapest thing out there, but it may go higher in the future.
I still remember the beef shortage of 1974. I noticed more fat being left on the meat.
My parents remembered the beef glut of the 1930s when government agents bought all they could find, dug a hole and shot and buried them, to create a shortage and get the price up. They would NOT allow anyone to cut a steak from the shot cattle.
