Beef prices hit all-time high in U.S.

Come grilling season, expect your sirloin steak to come with a hearty side of sticker shock. Beef prices have reached all-time highs in the U.S. and aren't expected to come down any time soon. Extreme weather has thinned the nation's beef cattle herds to levels last seen in 1951, when there were about half as many mouths to feed in America. "We've seen strong prices before but nothing this extreme," said Dennis Smith, a commodities broker for Archer Financial Services in Chicago. "This is really new territory." The retail value of "all-fresh" USDA choice-grade beef jumped to a record $5.28 a pound in February, up from $4.91 the same time a year ago. The same grade of beef cost $3.97 as recently as 2008. The swelling prices are roiling the beef supply chain from rancher to restaurant.

Prices going up on every item in the supermarket, while the amount purchased shrinks….just like it was when Jimmah Carter was in office. Some of us were cursed to have seen two really lousy Democrat presidents ruin the economy.

Checked the freezer. 1. Elk, 3. Whitetail Deer, 3 Feral Hog’s and just recently added 3 Turkey Gobblers. Plus we still have some Quail, Dove, Catfish and about a dozen Cottontails. We’re good to go!

True, but I never feared Carter. I truly fear Obama.

“Before you know it, we’ll be eating squirrel and possum again.”

Fried squirrel with biscuits and gravy is some fine eating.

Yes, but how long does it take you to make three trips a day to a restaurant of some type?

Beef prices have been ridiculously high for the las couple of years, they’re going to have to drop sometime.

Yep.

Farmers are in business to make money, and won’t bypass an opportunity.

Besides, I’m not sure food prices have done anything except reflect the falling value of the dollar.

LACK of Global Warming is the culprit? I did not see ethanol production mentioned. Burn animal food in our cars and the price of beef goes up! Wow, who da thunk! I'm sure compliance with ever increasing EPA regulations is a factor also.

I agree.

The ability to put food on your table is paramount.

I remove the breasts, season, bacon wrap and slow cook them on the grill or smoker. Take the wings, leg’s and back and cook them in a large pot of water with seasoning. When done I pull them out and take all the meat off of them. Throw some potato’s onions and whatever else I want and cook them in the broth. When about an hour out I throw in some rice and the rest of the turkey. Fine eating and I put the rest in 1 lb coffee containers and store them in the freezer for later.

Your time means nothing to the Party. It is clear you are not Party member or you would have all the food and meat you need. This is why to become good comrade and work for the people and glorious party. We do not get to Glorious New World Order with meat juices on lips.

I had 10 deer eating the clover in my front yard Sunday evening.
Saw 3 nice size ones during my walk this morning.
Could be a good deer season next fall.

I’m in no way judging or disapproving. Just curious.

Life is short. We might as well eat what, when and how we like.

Only problem is it’s harder to keep the weight down then. My wife wants me back in my soldier shape again, which means I need to drop about 10 lbs heh.
