Actor Rob Lowe identified himself as an independent moderate this weekend in an interview with the New York Times.
Lowe, a former Democrat, spoke about his views on government, saying:
My thing is personal freedoms, freedoms for the individual to love whom they want, do with what they want. In fact, I want the government out of almost everything.
The former teen heartthrob and current Parks and Recreation actor spoke negatively of political party loyalty as well:
Belonging to one party is acceptable. But my days of just ticking the party box are long over. I judge the candidates for who they are.
In the past, Lowe was rumored to be a conservative, even quoting in a 2009 interview the famous phrase, If youre young and youre not a liberal, you have no heart. If youre older and not a conservative, you have no brain.
In a 2014 interview with David Gregory, Lowe clarified some of his views saying:
Just my own world view is that the individual needs to be more responsible for their own lives and thats not the conversation were having right now, for whatever reason.
He also referenced President John F. Kennedys famous line, Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country, saying that today . . . our discussion is the inverse . . . people are asking, What can our government do for us?

Left libertarian.
sounds like a left-leaning libertarian.
But why does government need to change laws and legitimize the union through a "marriage"?? I agree -- get the government out of everything and that includes stopping the farce of homosexual marriage.
Love? It's not my business.
Marriage? Don't go messing up a noble institution with government-sanctioned perversity.
Including the US?
i still find him to be physically very beautiful...
What two adults do privately, not my business.
But don’t force me to celebrate it.
As if somebody were opposed to this. Lowe has all the brainpower of a Miley Cyrus.
Left libertarian..? Nah.
He’s MAD enough to start spilling the beans about the ugly truth, but POOR enough to want to KEEP WORKING.
In Hollywood.
And that means making lots of noise about gay freedoms, pot, etc.
He’s protecting his professional as*.
I just still can’t get over those scenes of him as Liberace’s plastic surgeon.
He’s too pretty. John Wayne now he’s a looker!
Ian Somerhalder looks similar to Rob Lowe...the eyes.
Agreed...I don’t like pretty men, either.
Give me Daryl Dixon anyday. ;)
the thing about Rob Lowe is, he would be prettier than just about any gal he would be partnered with... John Wayne does not do it for me... Mark Harmon, on the other hand... as for rugged good looks—Gerard Butler :)
I don’t have a problem with a damn quote he has here.
Rob Lowe as Dr. Startz in "Behind the Candleabra".
Lowe portrayed a NYC transplant doctor who had "hit the Hollywood scene pretty hard for some years".
The real Dr. Startz eventually killed himself.
Lowe said they'd aggressively taped his face up and put a wig on top, but got the weirdest results when he also tried to close his eyes --made him look SUPER WEIRD (which was the idea).
i was not familiar with him, so i looked up his images... and omgosh--you are right! the eyes are dead-on Rob Lowe... it's kind of creepy...
Daryl Dixon...yes I can see why you feel that way.
My favorite performance from Rob Lowe, and one of his least known.
Stole every scene he was in --a total freak plastic-surgeon character.
i was not familiar with him, so i looked up his images... and omgosh—you are right! the eyes are dead-on Rob Lowe... it’s kind of creepy...
I’ve heard we all have doppelgangers!
Literally.
