Hadn’t heard that
Trivia question - Shakespeare movie he starred in with James Cagney. Extra credit if you can name his part and Cagney’s part.
Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Don’t recall the name of the part.
I think he was Puck.
I never believed he didn’t realize what a fool he was (and she). This tribute didn’t change that opinion.

Puck. I think I spelled it Puke in the other thread. LOL And James Cagney played Bottom. Rooney broke his leg half way through and they had to hide the cast in the scenery. He obviously couldn’t do as much jumping around as the part called for which is probably why I wasn’t too fond of him. He basically shrieked his way through it. Probably the pain.
Wow - really?
Really? Think hard now....
It was certainly thought so c.1950.
I posit bob hope is the greatest of the 20th
Street performer
Vaudeville
Radio
Movies
Tv
USO
Live shows
Comedy,variety,singer, dancer
He did it all and all over the world
He did it all successfully
Believe it or not only movies that not on DVD YET is Andy Hardy movies
Now I thinking maybe very soon
I have, and I’m stickin’ to my opinion. Have thought about such as Bob Hope and Elvis Presley, but to me, Mickey was even more talented. He started performing at ~15 months old, and only death at 93 stopped him.
Yes, Bob Hope one of the greatest, too. Mickey did all the same, as well, from age ~15 months to his death at 93. I loved Mr. Hope, but still give the edge to Mr. Rooney.
It’s interesting how multi-talented were so many of the old stars. I saw Frankie Avalon at Disney World years ago, and he was very entertaining. Sang, danced, played the trumpet (well), told funny jokes. He wasn’t just the guy from the beach movies w/ Annette.
Thanks for posting this. I just finished watching it via YouTube. Not bad for almost 80 years ago. Olivia de Havilland was beautiful. Funny film.
In my life, there was always Mickey Rooney...and there will ALWAYS be Mickey Rooney.
Leni
Me, too.
So sad - thanks for the ping!
Friends with Ronald Reagan, ladies man who was married 8 times, including to Ava Gardner (she was a virgin at the time, allegedly). Quite a life.
Ann Miller was there too?
I’d agree, Rooney was multi-talented (including drums) and long-lived, but I would give the edge to Hope. He put his name out there in the en-masse public eye all the time so no one forgot him and even we youngsters knew who he was without having to wait for the 1 o’clock movie (weekday) rerun on CBS.
This makes me want to beat someone with a golf club.
How about Wayne Gretzky’s semi-attractive daughter Paulina? She’s on the cover of “Golf Digust” despite not being a golfer. The LPGA is pissed because fugly female golfers never make the cover.
