Secretary of the Army John McHugh told Bloomberg that Lopez was prescribed drugs for anxiety, sleeping problems and depression, but a psychiatrists evaluation last month found that he was no threat to himself or others. Theres no indication that he was diagnosed with PTSD before his death.

He bought the gun a month ago. That’s when a “plan” began.
The plan started when he was denied and then had to fight for leave to go home to bury his mother. And then I bet they did not want to pay for his leave because it happened when BamBam shut down the government or due to sequestration which is the excuse for a lot of things. I am guessing, of course.
Self-styled mujahadeen do not leave people guessing about their motives. Hassan made his motives quite explicit before he bought his weapons and after his terrorist atrocity - even if he had died in the process. The media uncovered a ton of evidence about him even before it was clear that he would survive.
They are saying that he was taking Ambien, anti depressants ( SSRI ?), anti anxiety meds (Xanax).
All of these have been linked to bizarre, violent behavior.
PTSD has been put to rest as he never saw combat.
Normal people, married with kids, don't just start shooting people in a cold, calculating way because they feel wronged or slighted which is why I'm leaving Sudden Jihadi Syndrome in the mix.
The reason that I mention hassan is that it was a similar crime, carried out in a similar fashion on the same base. To this day the administration still denies that it was terrorism and labels it "workplace violence".
Anyone else seeing some similarities with mass shooters these days?
Having mental health issues.
Being treated by psychiatrists.
Offing themselves when confronted by police, even thought they just shot a mass of people. I mean, why stop and kill YOURSELF?
The Aurora theater shooter, Adam Lanza, the Naval Yard shooter, this guy—there is a pattern emerging.
It is almost like these folks have been programmed, they do their deed, in most cases they don’t survive the incident, and the government lackeys use the incident to push for more gun control and confiscation.
Reminds of the old movie “Telefon” with Charles Bronson and Lee Remick (1977).
There is no statistical evidence that mentally ill people on SSRIs are more violent than mentally ill people who are not on SSRIs.
There is zero evidence that either Ambien or Xanax makes people violent.
I agree that normal people do not just murder people in cold blood for perceived slights.
Ivan Lopez was not normal.
He pretended to have a medical condition he did not have - as you correctly pointed out. Normal people do not do this.
Not only did he claim PTSD, he also claimed to have a TBI for which there is no record.
His social media footprint indicates his morbid tastes, but does not indicate that Islam was one of those tastes.
Let's be rational and apply Occam's Razor.
There is no evidence that he was interested in Islam. There is plenty of evidence that he was a nutjob.
Anyone who does such things is by definition a lunatic.
Is there a stronger indicator of mental illness than murdering innocent people for no justifiable reason?
Why do some of them kill themselves? To deprive the survivors of justice, obviously.
But the Colorado scumbag is alive. Hassan is alive. Not all of them do it.
Yes, just what is his quality of life? Poor hopefully.
I hope so too.
I would like to think that pangs of guilt would kick in and that is why they off themselves.
But then, why don’t the pangs of guilt kick in after the first murder? or the third? or the ninth?
The Columbine shooters were young, and they offed themselves too.Adam Lanza executed 20 little kids and six adults. He sees a cop and decides to shoot himself?
To me, I find that these mass murderers should have a sudden attack of conscience to be nonsensical, meaning without sense. A minute before, they were executing people, now they feel they should execute themselves?
Suicide is a method of denying the survivors justice. It is a way to rob society of its power to punish. It is an assertion of control. It is not a sign of remorse. It is a sign of defiance.
You make very valid points about suicide.
Although sometimes borne out of desperation, suicide is the ultimate expression of control over a perceived situation.
Here in lies a very real cure that is spiritual and simple, for PTSD. Now being used by thousands of troopers. Www.Patriot outreach.org

So very true. My brother and sister-in-law are in a terribly toxic situation.
They need to split and go there separate ways - that is obvious to family.
They don't see what everyone in the family sees. Their lives are miserable and have been for years.
But, not all wounds are visible - so very right, JoeProBono.
I was given Fentynil (sic) patches after a surgical procedure. I felt better, didn't put a new patch on and was afraid to go to sleep and afraid to be awake. I had horrible nightmares. Its been a couple of years and sometimes the nightmares get triggered all over again.
It was so odd. Mr. h called 911 for ambulance. I was out of my mind. I kept smelling a horrible odor. Only no one else smelled it. NO.ONE!
That didn't keep me from grabbing everyone's arm and pleading with them to tell me they smelled it, too.
From the ambulance to the ER, I kept asking doctors, nurses and ANY PATIENTS IN ER - 'DON'T YOU SMELL THAT SMELL?!' It took a while to go away.
I imagine if I take my experience and magnify it many times over, PTSD must be horrifying - PTSD pulls on all the demons. You are not yourself and I started detoxing from the Fentynil (sic) after the second day. It was a very dark time in my life.
I'm not saying this guy has or has not PTSD - just agreeing that "Not all wounds are visible."
Obviously these a$$holes are mentally ill but it seems that a fair number of them are on ssris, ritalin and/or other psychoactive drugs. Maybe they would have done what they did without the drugs. Maybe they all ate carrots that day or used Charmin bathroom tissue.
I personally had a bizarre reaction after being given Ambien in the hospital after major surgery. The only way to describe it would, I guess, be an LSD trip. Truly bizarre and horrifying. The nurse told me that that reaction was not uncommon.
