You laugh but there is something weird about April, especially middle. April 19 alone - Lexington, Baltimore riots against federals, Waco, OK City. Titanic sank that week, Lincoln shot, Ft. Sumter, etc. It is a significantly dangerous week.
My daughter starts there next fall.
We were heavily pressured to “participate”, and yes, I was worried that he might have been “scathed” for his quiet reluctance.
I am surprised that you remember, for you were only 7, if I remember right.
Here is an article, with some photos of the protesting going on.

My sister was born mid April. That’s all the crazy you need. (She will laugh at this.)
We’re finally on our own
4 dead in Benghazi
I’d read that someone saw the guy fire a pistol into the ground outside one of the dorms or other building.
Too much talk about Benghazi and obamacare in the news today. This should work...
I distinctly recall hearing about riots at UB and how you were worried about him getting home okay. Angela and I would watch the car headlights coming toward our apartment on Main St. from our bedroom window, trying to figure out if each car was a white VW bug or not.
Do you remember all four of you children crammed into that VW bug, before seat belts and child safety seats, going to see the grandparents in Ohio?
The riots happened when we still lived in Buffalo in the upstairs apartment, 18 months before Jessie was born.
I think well over 70 professors were involved in the riots, and there was a lot of pressure applied to your Dad to be one of them. As an AirForce vet, he wasn’t about to participate, and did his best to stay below the radar.
But, we got all sorts of flack for not participating in all the drugs, sex, and rock and roll back then, too, and just put up with the abuse from our peers, who all considered us way too conventional, not realizing that we were the true rebels against their destructive group-think.
Think that was a run-on sentence, so must be time to go to bed.
I still miss Angela.
You put up a good post, and brought back so many memories...

they do’t evcen have to plan it, b/c they know their peeps by their very natures, will do it all on their own.
Yup, fondly remember the texture of the coarse carpet lining the little space behind the back seat of the Beetle where we would sit, and shake our fingers at any car trying to pass us, chanting “Don’t you get in front of us, no, no, no!”
I guess I mixed-up my memories of Wellington Street/Buffalo with Youngstown.
Police did arrest a suspect in the campus shot fired incident.
I miss those days, and all your creative back-seat hijinks.
Those were the good old days. Too bad that Jim Rhodes did not move up to become POTUS.
