WASHINGTON Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul said Tuesday that Republicans need to show Hispanic voters that they are not just the party of deportation.
During a symposium at the Newseum on conservative engagement with Hispanic media outlets, Paul also said Republicans have plenty of ideas that appeal to Latinos, but acknowledged, We got to get beyond deportation to get to the rest of the issues.
The bottom line is that the Hispanic community, the Latino community, is not going to hear us until we get beyond that issue. Theyre not going to care whether we go to the same church or have the same values or believe in the same kind of future of the country until we get beyond that. So showing up helps. But you got to show up and you got to say something and its has to be different than what weve been saying.

Excellent.
Rand Paul is POISON to me

and yet you managed to choke down and vote for Willard Mitt Romney who is and has been a full blown AMNESTY Bill pusher for years..
I live in San Antonio. Most of the hispanic business owners I know (which, by the way, seems to be most of the business owners, period!) are just as you describe: proud of their heritage, conservative and family-oriented, and ashamed of the welfare mamacitas and vatos.
“So were at an impass. We dont want to be the party of amnesty and we cant be the party of deportation without the power of the military.”
I still like the “self-deportation” angle. Remove the incentives for them to be here illegally (jobs, public benefits, healthcare, education), and they will remove themselves at their own expense.
When I lived in Irving the Hispanic chamber of commerce was always asking for city funding. Welfare hounds.
America needs leaders of principle. Rand Paul is not one.
If it can’t be the party of deportation, then it sure as hell not be the party of employment, the rule of law, secure borders, small government, or accountability either.
Rand Paul is an ass. Sorry, but he’s as wackadoodle as his dad when it comes to politics and leadership.
Another flippant meaningless, irrelevant post to avoid the truth about libertarianism?
Actually that is the basic argument of the libertarians, give us our social liberalism today, and somehow that will result in the population voting to end welfare, social programs, and big government.
Everybody here knows how libertarians respond when called on their immigration agenda, the response is “yeah, but remove tax payer incentives and we will only get the good people of the world.”, the reality is that social liberalism and immigration creates more liberal, big government voters.
Libertarianism and Immigration:
COMPLETE PLATFORM TEXT
INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS AND CIVIL ORDER
IMMIGRATION:
THE ISSUE: We welcome all refugees to our country and condemn the efforts of U.S. officials to create a new Berlin Wall which would keep them captive. We condemn the U.S. governments policy of barring those refugees from our country and preventing Americans from assisting their passage to help them escape tyranny or improve their economic prospects.
THE PRINCIPLE: We hold that human rights should not be denied or abridged on the basis of nationality. Undocumented non-citizens should not be denied the fundamental freedom to labor and to move about unmolested. Furthermore, immigration must not be restricted for reasons of race, religion, political creed, age or sexual preference. We oppose government welfare and resettlement payments to non-citizens just as we oppose government welfare payments to all other persons.
SOLUTIONS: We condemn massive roundups of Hispanic Americans and others by the federal government in its hunt for individuals not possessing required government documents. We strongly oppose all measures that punish employers who hire undocumented workers. Such measures repress free enterprise, harass workers, and systematically discourage employers from hiring Hispanics.
TRANSITIONAL ACTION: We call for the elimination of all restrictions on immigration, the abolition of the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Border Patrol, and a declaration of full amnesty for all people who have entered the country illegally.
Well said!
Is it me or does it seem like Rand Paul is fizzling out as a principled Presidential candidate before the campaign begins.
***
He appears to be trying to make nice with the GOPe.
Rand Paul just lost a bunch of votes. What’s his problem? Anyone who caters to illegal aliens - invaders who take our jobs, rape and murder, form violent gangs and cartels, and include terrorists - is NOT standing up for this country.
Strike and you’re done!
Paul would do better to remind hispanics about the Reagan amnesty and to tell them its now time to implement the border fixes democrats agreed to.
Sold out for campaign ca$h.
“[T]he Hispanic community, the Latino community, is not going to hear us until we get beyond that issue.”
Rand, the only thing I care about them hearing is “if you’re here illegally, get out now.”
Frankly, I’m starting to get the idea that the modes of transportation we’re using for deportations are too costly. An old enemy of ours used railway cars, and I’m starting to like that...so long as the end of the line is in Mexico, not Poland...
If that idea ever catches on, a lot of them will wish they had got out while they could still drive themselves in their own cars...
Paul hasn’t sold out, these are his libertarian politics that we are seeing.
Libertarians oppose conservatism.
We also cannot be the party of extortionists, murderers, felons and predators, nor can we be a party that countenances:
<><> nativist illegals cashing multiple govt checks using stolen SS numbers,
<><> nativist illegals falsifying govt documents to get US benefits,
<><> nativist illegals not paying taxes on all of their income,
<><> nativist illegals using stolen SS numbers,
<><> nativist illegals using faked driver's licenses,
<><> nativist illegalsreceiving payment(s) from foreign entities,
<><> nativist illegals receiving payments from tax-exempt latino groups,
<><> people listed as lobbyists for latino pressure groups,
<><> nativist illegals filing multiple EITC refund forms,
<><> nativist illegals fasifying EITC apps listing non-existent children,
<><> nativist illegals w/ rap sheets here; or in a foreign land,
<><> nativist illegals who are members of violent reconquista groups.
<><> nativist illegals actively undermining US ntl security.
God has everything to do with goodness.
Oh, you are always lumping everything bad you’ve ever heard from large-L Libertarians in a bucket and smear everybody who thinks out of your box with it.
This is getting old.
I agree with Rand Paul. We don’t need to deport. Just make it unattractive to come or stay and they won’t. They will go home. If they can’t get a job, apt, medical care, EBT card, drivers license and enroll their kid in school then they won’t come.
Of course its too bad Rand isn’t advocating that. Personally I think the immigration issue is the hardest issue for presidential candidates to face. And the legislature. Its hard to do the hard things. Denying these illegals the items I mentioned in paragraph one bring a cacophony of negative press and denegration down on any politician who tries to advance that approach. Its just so much easier to let them all stay and tell the rest of us its not really amnesty and they will build a fence and make everybody speak English.
Reverse the Order.
The eternal libertarian chant, “give me gay marriage, drugs, and open borders today, and I will gladly pay you with the end of welfare and social programs and liberal voters, on Tuesday”.
Tell the libertarians to end welfare and social programs FIRST, then we will listen to their pro-immigration, anti-social conservative arguments.
