Kennedys honor George H.W. Bush's read my lips flip-flop with Profile of Courage award
The Kennedy foundation is praising George H.W. Bush for risking his reputation and ultimately his political career by forging an important compromise on the budget in 1990. Jack Schlossberg, President Kennedys grandson and a Yale University student, will present the award to Bush at a ceremony in May.
George H.W. Bushs epic read my lips: no new taxes promise cost him a second White House term, but its earning him a 2014 Profile in Courage award from the Kennedy clan.
Despite his fervent pledge against a hike when he ran for President in 1988, Bush did ultimately agree to raise taxes.
Though Bill Clinton capitalized on Bushs flip-flop and defeated him in 1992, the Kennedy Foundation is now praising Bush for risking his reputation and ultimately his political career by forging an important compromise on the budget in 1990.
Bush agreed to a tax increase as part of the compromise, and he was pilloried by conservatives for doing so ... he did what he thought was best for the country, the Kennedys said in an announcement Thursday.

Dung Boy Harry ....
works for me!!
He doesnt LOOK like hes going to last until 2016
Obama has aged all of his pals it appears
my recollection of the “read my lip” happening was that the Democrats made a deal that they would cut spending if Bush would sign tax legislation. It was to be by a certain ratio, something like $3 in cuts to $1 in taxes. I believe Ted Kennedy was in on the deal. Bush, wanting to cut spending agreed. They immediately sent a bill for taxes to the WH, Bush signed, Then the Democrats reneged on the deal and the rest is history.
The moral of the stories is never trust a Democrat. The are deceivers of the first order.
Clinton: “Look George, ya still owe me and my guys for those 2750 Keys that, ah, somehow ‘disappeared’ out of Mena. We had a deal old bud, how ya’ll gonna fix this? Bush: “Bill, what if I say something so boneheaded dumb that it will almost guarantee my re-election defeat? Clinton: “Well, that was a LOT of blow George, it had better be good but yeah, okay, you screw the pooch and we are even. I’ll let Oliver North what is what also okay?” Bush: Fine Bill, fine”.
Petty bastards, the real profile-in-courage award went to JFK long ago for reducing taxes to stimulate the economy. The rats never got over that one. Stung like hell and they’ve been trying ever since to return the favor.
Exactly how I see it. The American equivalent of Bildergbergers...
Good point. You should write this gin soaked Kennedy foundation a letter suggesting that.
