Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin has endorsed Karen Handel for U.S. Senate in Georgia. Palin made the announcement on her Facebook page, citing a quotation attributed to Margaret Thatcher: "If you want something said, ask a man. If you want something done, ask a woman." Handel, the former secretary of state and an unsuccessful candidate for governor in 2010, is in a five-way GOP primary for the Senate seat currently held by retiring Republican Saxby Chambliss.
Palin SarahII
Handel has found herself locked into an effective tie with most of the other Republican candidates, although businessman David Perdue has been ahead in two recent polls, while Jack Kingston, a congressman from Savannah, is polling around second place. The other contenders for the nomination are congressmen Paul Broun and Phil Gingrey.
Palin noted the importance of the race for Republicans in her endorsement of Handel. "This Georgia Senate race is very important to the Democrats and has long-term repercussions for 2016 as Democrats test the waters to see if they can win big in a red state with a woman candidate," Palin wrote. "That is why the GOP needs a strong contender like Karen Handel. She is the conservative candidate who can win this race and hold this seat for the GOP."
In an editorial for the latest issue of THE WEEKLY STANDARD, Fred Barnes notes Handel and Kingston are both candidates that would be "tough to beat" for the strong Democratic candidate, Michelle Nunn.

I know it's a bit of a stretch to consider, but suppose it's Cruz vs. Hillary in 2016. A clever Hillary campaign ad might say, “According to Sarah Palin, if you want something done, ask a woman.”
Shudder
Really, Sarah? If you're reading FR, check out my tagline.
I have little patience with this nonsense (and yes, it was nonsense coming from Thatcher, too).
I don’t live in GA. This is the first I’ve heard of Handel. What’s the problem with her?
She’s not part of the GOB network. Our state GOP is about as sick as they come. That’s why we get stuck with the Johnny Isaksons, the Saxby Chamblisses, and the Nathan Deals of the world. They are all Party insiders who can count on Party support, while the true conservatives like Herman Cain and Eric Johnson get shut out.
This endorsement may not have the effect that Palin has had in other races. Perdue is hammering all of the others for being ‘insiders’ He is touting his business experience and background. Kingston is running ads that show his 20 year old car as proof old his fiscal ‘conservatism’.
The rest are just floating around out there. Karen has done some town halls but she doesn’t have much traction at this point.
We will see as the primary comes closer
She also supported Ted Cruz when the GOPelite didn’t
Handel is NOT the next most conservative in the race.....unless you use Massachusetts standards
Long time government bureaucrat. Hard to assess her exact stance on many things. Her campaign web site says the right things, but who knows? Just from what I've heard, she's pretty much in the center of the Republican pack on issues
For example her web site says
Stop the gun-grabbing Obama/Feinstein legislation and oppose any attempt to create a national gun registry. End massive government ammunition stockpiling designed as backdoor ammunition control for private gun owners., but she says nothing about repealing existing unconstitutional restrictions or the mental health stuff that is the the anti-gunners' flavor of the month.
“Handel is NOT the next most conservative in the race.....unless you use Massachusetts standards”
I’ve been pulling for Broun. Purdue is out of the question. Who in the race is the next conservative after Broun?
GA FReeper ping.
Interesting choice.
Heck, I did too. I’m not a big Deal fan, at all.
Currently Perdue would be my first choice. Kingston is a backstabbing sos. Our whole group worked in one of his campaigns way back when with promises from him to initiate repeal of gun control. Never happened
Good!
Latest poll I can find.
Perdue 29, Kingston 19, Gingrey 12, Broun 11, Handel 10

Broun is going to get chewed up and spit out by Nunn. He's Akin 2.0 and an embarrasment to the GOP. It was wise of Palin to refrain from endorsing him.
Actually, she has been my ‘preferred’ candidate all along.
Frankly, I’m tired of good old boys and old white men. The all talk a good game, but they all - like Chambliss - end up like a bunch of friggin RINOs. They just can’t help it, and when they come home to the district or state, they start parsing their words like that bastard of a congressman of mine, Collins. He voted with Lewis (D) and Johnson (D) on the Paul Ryan Debt Capitulation Scam and then sent me a f@cking flyer that said “he’s ‘resisted’ debt increase.” Effing liar.
If she’s on the ballot in the primary, she has my vote.
IIRC correctly, she was on the board of the SUSAN G KOMEN Foundation when it stopped funding to Planned Parenthood, and THEN RESTARTED that funding. Karen Handel resigned. Good on her.
As for Susan G Komen Foundation and their fund raising threeday.org crap, I tell those Kroger cashiers “SGK funds abortions” every time they ask me if I want to donate a dollar. They, SGK, say it isn’t for abortions but ‘womens health’....like I’ve always said “I’ll join a union if they can show me where Jimmy Hoffa is buried”, I’ll give to that fricking SGK if they can show me ONE damned mammogram machine in ANY PP clinic.
If by interesting you mean "that woman really needs to get a hobby and stay out of Georgia elections."
You can decide which woman I mean.
Please see post #37....
Absolutely incredible. Sad, as well.
You go ahead and play identity politics, then. I'll pass.
