Last September, the U.S. government announced that our birthrate fell to "another record low" in 2012, following a long, steady slide since the Baby Boom after World War II.
It goes without saying that, morally speaking, there's nothing wrong with this. It's natural, in a way. All over the world, birthrates tend to fall along with economic development, for numerous reasons including (a) the move away from a labor-intensive small-farm economy and (b) women's ascendance in the workforce, which uses time that used to be devoted to child-rearing. Families in richer countries tend to have fewer kids. In places like Japan and Western Europe, national populations are actually peaking.

“Intelligent Americans have basically decided that they can only afford to properly raise 2 children, +/- 1, in the economy they live in.”
I think you’re being overly optimistic; I see many whites foregoing children altogether, marrying when the women is safely past the point of conceiving (without considerable risk). At the same time, it seems 1 out of every 4 Hispanic women of child-bearing age are pregnant; while they think they are getting the last laugh with these anchor babies/welfare bastards, in fact those very children (legal citizens by nature of being born here) will be squeezed to pay for the retirements of aging whites as they fade away.
The only whites I see still breeding are those safely employed by the government (either tenured teachers or others with seniority); I don’t know overall whether that is good or bad (as successive generations learn to attach themselves to the taxpayers’ teats early on).
homosexual marriage which can never produce ANY offspring.
“They want the toys and the vacations and they dont care to be bothered with the trouble of having kids. Kids are work. Most people dont care for the work, they care for the fun. Vacations, new cars and big houses are fun.”
That may be the case for some, but I see an increasing number of childless young people having a hard time making ends meet in this horrible economy (due to job losses, wage cuts, McJobs, etc.). With so much economic insecurity, it is harder to expect people to “take the plunge” (and it is a plunge); they want to retain their freedom to follow jobs, move to better environments, etc.. My wife and I had children (the last ten years ago), and I’d hope I could resist the temptations today to avoid doing it; I thought things were tough then (and they were), but this is brutal.
In the end, I just saw no point in being here (or getting married) if we weren’t going to breed. Maybe it’s an Irish thing, and I don’t expect others to feel the same way (as long as they understand and accept the widespread ramifications of their choice), but when all else is a mess I never lack a sense of purpose since the little monsters started coming...
Don’t worry, the illegals from across the border are bringing in 8 to 12 kids apiece.
Where I live the welfare crowd spits out babies like wet watermelon seeds!
They consider them an “investment” and with each one they spit out, the more income and benefits they get from the socialist government.
It’s like the splitting of the atom....1 =2, 2=4, 4=16 and on and on. The next generation of welfare cheats will be today’s population of human scum squared and it will square every cycle of 15 years...(the average age of welfare female vermin’s first baby delivery).
There is no turning back for the gates of responsibility were breached in 1964 by the introduction of the most important spear stuck in America’s side....THE GREAT SOCIETY!
So, are you saying that no one has the right to go through life without children if that is their preference? Furthermore, everyone should have as many children as sex permits, whether they can afford them or not?
And all this time I thought we had personal freedom in this country. But to people like you, no, one must conform to your set of beliefs. Is that correct?
Ahh, but ClearCaseGuy seems to be saying that you must have them! You must! To hell with your preferences to not be stone-cold broke all the time or to have children that your genetic background tells you will be genetically deformed. He's not content to praising those who wish to have children--and no one is saying that that is not a good thing. It just should not be a mandatory obligation...if one believes in freedom, that is. I have severe doubts about Mr. Guy's commitment to personal freedom.
“... the Caucasian. ...it better start raising a herd per family.”
One of missionary families our church supports visited the church this week. They have 14 children between 6 mo. and 21 years old. Since they live in the bush, they’re home schooled. Beautifully “put together”, incredibly smart, polite as can be, talented, and those who are old enough to make decisions plan to go into some area of God’s work. I would be hopeful for our country if all Christians in America raised this kind of children.
I never wanted children, and I didn’t. I don’t regret it since I know I’d have been a terrible parent. (Better no kids than dysfunctional ones.) I sure am glad that good people have taken up the responsibility in my place.
Bologna! They want the toys and the vacations and they dont care to be bothered with the trouble of having kids. Kids are work. Most people dont care for the work, they care for the fun. Vacations, new cars and big houses are fun.No, that ain't it at all for me. It has nothing to do with fun. I can have all the fun I want on the cheap. Fun is mostly free for me. But I can't make rent and save for my retirement and have kids at the same time. And I'm sorry, I won't work until I drop at 90. Please don't give me the guff about how the kids'll take care of me. It rarely, if ever, works out that way - and even if the kids do, it usually leads to fighting and resentment. My parents refuse to even let me or my sibs cut the grass for them. They think it's insulting if we offer.
Ahh, but ClearCaseGuy seems to be saying that you must have them! You must!If he really wants that, he pay for the reversal of my snip. ;)
Fertility rates all over the world have been falling but they are uneven.
Right now there are 7 billion on the earth and you can broadly break that number out to 1 billion in the Americas(N&S). 1 billion in Europe and Russia. 1 billion in Africa. 4 billion in Asia.
By 2050, Africa will add a second billion and Asia will add a 5th billion for a 9 billion total.
By 2100, Africa will add a 3rd and 4th billion for a total of 11 billion.
The CIA factbook publishes a list of the national fertility rates, in descending order. Also the Wikipedia page on fertility rates publishes the CIA list plus those published by the World Bank and the UN.
How much more economically insecure where our ancestors when they left their native countries to come to America. Most had NOTHING and they couldn’t even speak the language.
It is simple fact. People are selfish. They have found a way to have all the sex they want without any of the responsibility. They can have lots of sex and lots of toys and a big house into the bargain so who needs kids anyway?
Thanks for your post 49 in support of my position.
Mr. Guy is the poster boy for the people who maintain that they—and only they—have the wisdom to determine what’s best for you and for society; therefore, you are in violation of their dictates and are accordingly condemned for having a variant position.
I come from a family whose genes should not go forward. That is always a consideration blithely dismissed by those who say, “Reproduce, reproduce!” at all costs.
I didn’t want children for a variety of reasons (the preceding was one of them). I knew that I did not have the temperament. I also married late in life (my wife was 37); having children at that age is not a good idea, in my opinion.
Also, and here I draw the wrath of those who know best, I grew up dirt poor and was determined to not continue as such. I served in the military and saved enough money for my first year of college, and then worked my butt off part-time paying for the rest.
Today, I am still happily married and am not poor. Too bad if certain people don’t like that.
You figure it out. It is no more difficult than it was in many periods of history and a darn sight easier than in most.
All the arguments are simply excuses as to why it is better have things as opposed to a child or several children.
Everyone has their priorities in life. Most people today have decided that having children, or at least more than one or two children, is not what they desire. It is not a priority.
Multiply that by millions of individual couples and the demographic trend shows as a declining population.
We want, but can’t risk financial problems.
If I were a lazy @ss with no assets or responsibility I could have several on the dole.
Hear! Hear! From your fingertips to God's eyes!
There was a term for kids who had everything material they wanted: Spoiled Rotten!
Some 'privations' build character and strength. I may not have had all the stuff some other kids did, but the experiences, the love, the shared times with family and friends remain priceless. In that I was far richer than I imagined as a child, and life had a fullness no mere stuff can provide.
I still see people who are preoccupied with stuff--the new car, the latest gizmo, a bigger house--but their children are often lonely and rudderless.
Like I said, you always find a way. It is a matter of priorities and children are not one of your priorities. There is nothing wrong with that on the micro level. It is when that type of fearful attitude takes hold on the macro level that we have a societal problem.
Right now our society has a problem. We have dipped below replacement levels for several years and more and more people are getting older and as the age they get sicker. They are the ones that will require more youthful people to pay for their future expenses.
That is the entire point of the article and the entire reason why healthy societies are growing societies. Europe, Russia, Japan and the United States are no longer demographically healthy societies.
The figures I was questioning was exactly who was breeding in the Americas (in the US specifically); many adults aren’t even breeding anymore.
I agree that our ancestors had little economic security; children weren’t so much a “choice” back then. My point was that now many young people don’t have kids OR toys OR a big house (the current problems in the housing market are in part a reflection of this “lost generation” for whom children - and therefore houses - aren’t even on the table). Check out Craigslist or your local flea market; the toys of days gone by are for sale (for cheap, too).
I’ve done my part in terms of breeding, and have mixed feelings towards those who choose not to; I can step back and look at the horrible job market and see that many aren’t partying instead of having families.
